2016 Civic Type R Named World Car Finalist



The New York Auto Show is almost upon us, and that means an international jury will name the winners in each of five categories of the World Car Awards. Before the winners can be announced, though, the committee has named the top three finalists in each category. The nominees for the

2016 World Car of the Year award are:

• Audi A4
• Mazda MX-5
• Mercedes-Benz GLC

The jury also selects winners in individual categories as well. Those categories are listed below.

2016 World Luxury Car of the Year:

• Audi Q7
• BMW 7 Series
• Volvo XC90

The Performance finalists are:

• Audi R8
• Honda Civic Type R
• Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe

World Green Car of the Year Finalist

• Chevy Volt
• Toyota Mirai
• Toyota Prius

Top Design Award Finalist

• Jaguar XE
• Mazda CX-3
• Mazda MX-5

The nominations put both Audi and Mazda in good position to win both the top award and more, with the German and Japanese brands each nominated three times. Mercedes and Toyota also have two finalists each, with BMW, Chevy, Jaguar, Honda, and Volvo also represented. The winners will be announced on March 24.

Can't discredit the times it put down at the ring for a fwd car, or any car for that matter.

I hope the type R can dominate. To have a FWD car top charts in performance only leaves room for honda to make a killer AWD hatch/car.

i'd like to see the Type R go against the new NSX... especially at Sonoma or any other tight tracks. Theoretically the NSX wins in top speed (191 versus 167) but you don't often see top speeds achieved on a track.
