Not a lot of light pollution too, it seems.
 
I'd do the same thing when I lived in Denver. Nice drive no matter what.
 
I'm trying to catch the moon low on the horizon on a clear night and see if it can get some craters showing, it looks bigger, just don't know if the camera will see it the same as I do... I do have a 300m lens and it didn't do diddly for a high in the sky shot. Not that my town in Virginia is big, but it does put out light I don't want, and we're only 350 feet.
