DIY $ 15 temp gauge

Did you buy Torque Pro and try it with the cheap Chinese unit?

Anything that is a fake or "untrusted" source such as China I rather not try using that one. I've watched a video and the guy stated he ordered 8 more which didn't work which came from a different source based out of China which he didn't expect.

My friend bought one from Amazon thinking it was the legit obd blutooth connection, but the software had some sort of malware and hidden asian porn. Yes, you heard that correctly.

After getting rid of those file, the bluetooth obd did work pretty well.

Torque and Torque Pro are not in the disk that came with the unit anyway, so there's no need to use the mini cd from China. If you think the unit may harm your car, don't use it.

Oh, I remember now. He was using his laptop so he couldn't use the Torque program. He had to use a different program and it contained those contents I mentioned. lOl.

You may have another problem then, because the "good" one is also made in China . . . as is 99% of everything we consume, it seems.

Yup. Torque and Torque Pro are android apps for smartphones.

The second order came in today and it's the real deal :) Gonna try it tomorrow. Just got in from the gym.

I got it working and pretty cool. I got the Torque Pro app version. Unless I am missing something it's not telling me the voltage, coolant temps and etc. Just basic info. Settings?

EDIT: Found more settings so gonna give it another try soon.

A Samsung Galaxy 5" MP3 player w/ GPS was going on sale for $130 shipped. It would have been a great device for this product.

Just found this thread and ordered myself one! Looks very useful and just generally awesome

First off for those of us with warranties; I believe Im correct by saying if my dealership hooks up their diagnotic computer to a 9th gencivic, they are capable of seeing the last time the ecu was accessed VIA the data link connector. If that is a valid statement would there be any eyebrows raised over this product and deny the warranty claim? (both apple and the android software).

My second question would be for going the apple route. In the video the guy is using Wifi to connect to the plug in device. Is this just the way it works on apple or does he only plan on using it when he is in a wifi hotspot? Or is it neccessary to buy a hotspot device to keep in your car and make the monthly payments? Can the apple product just simply use bluetooth?

I have and android phone and wouldnt mind going that way but i think the ipad route would be cooler visually. such as this guy did; incorporate the ipad into the car somehow and the bigger screen.

The obd-II port just provides diagnostic info. You aren't altering anything.... just monitoring. According to their info in the app store:

OBD-II Hardware compatibility:
- ELM compatible WiFi (OBDLink Wifi, PLX Kiwi Wifi, OBDKey WLAN)
- GoPoint GL1 (hardwired) or BT1 (Bluetooth)

You would not be voiding your warranty by having this display on your phone/ipad. It's really just a fancy version of "scangauge"

nice mod.

I think it's dumb that they didn't add a temp gauge but also if the car isn't overheating who cares what the operating temp is.

Anyone racing their car should have FlashPro and should datalog during racing, that right there tells them all they'll need determine on how to cool it better if needed.

Very sweet!! Love the tablet idea for the car. Yes it would be cool if iMID could display all of that information but at present we're hoping somebody can hack it so we can do the software mods.
I'm pretty sure @ADExternal could put these readings on his Imid through his DVD etc. player.
