Amazon, Mobil 1 & Valvoline Oil Compared

That oil filter is Pre order :hmmm?:. Wonder if they made changes to it?

And I am revving my car out much higher than Honda set the rev limiter too.
Good idea, now do you think your engine might develop a problem?:bananapop:

Tricky question. Not sure what's been happening with Honeywell lately, or what is now Allied Signal. What other filters does Honeywell make? Not many. One is the Pennzoil brand... and those are not that good. So in that sense the Honda filter might be on the cheaper side.

Supporting that theory? We've all seen Honda discounting their oil filters to about the $6.00/ea price, even these days. Which is strange because it means the OEM product is cheaper than many knock-offs. What does that tell you? But I don't have any hard data for you.

In the end the OEM filters are probably fine under normal loads. If on the other hand your question is "what about sustained high-RPM stress" I might have a concern. My advice is that you'd better not be exceeding the OEM redline with Flash Pro or anything. Because if the filter fails under that scenario (like it does with other cheaper filters) that would be Honda's 'out', right?

Personally I don't buy full flow oil filters for their filtration ability. I buy them to provide a basic level of protection... but more importantly to hang tough and not disintegrate under stress or old age. That's why I buy the old line companies like Wix, Hastings and Donaldson. Those are companies who have a large heavy duty truck customer case. As such, I believe those who buy WIX car filters (for example) enjoy the benefits of production geared predominantly towards the heavy duty segment, and is also less reliant on automotive-related revenues or cutthroat competition where price is too often the only determinant.

At least that's my theory. And both the structural integrity we see evident in those filters -- as well as the performance data -- support that theory.

Check out BITCG. WIX has a fine reputation. Here's the 9th gen filter on Amazon:

Wow... just checked price. Bought a case of 12 a few years ago for about $6.00/each. Now they're $10.00. $%*$*. Getting more and more difficult to buy quality.

Good luck, amigos.

Wix makes the napa Platinum oil filter for Honda using syn media material backed with wire base and is a high flow filter holds 100% more dirt than a napa Gold and has a thick shell too should hold up under high rpm's. I bought 5 of them for $25 at Napa when they normally sell for $12. 3 oversized oil filter s Napa platinum's for the vfr 800 that can do 11750rpm that's stock-Your car will never be able to hit that rpms ever 11750.:paper:

No need for near 12k RPMs with the 9th gen si the stroke ratios are to great!! it is possible but would cost so much. I would rather spend the money in making power vs trying to rev higher.

And I do have a GS-R that revs much higher than my 9th SI and with it's short stroke it is possible to rev to 10,000-11,000 with modifications.

well try 11750 see if it breaks, the motorcycle isn't the same engine its better.:bananapoke:

What would be the point of me trying to rev my motor out to 11,750? And how are you comparing a motorcycle motor being better than a car motor?

Oh you bad boy. Did you just remove the fuel cut off like I did?

No, my tuner set my rev limiter to 7,800. The motor should be more than ok at that level.

During testing, Honda ran the K24Z7 at redline for 24 hours straight. No problem. The engine is rock solid... but your "7800" is just a tad over redline, isn't it?

I go up there myself... but not for long.

Above you'll see all the filters currently in my garage for the two K24's i have. The one thing that stuck me was how well made all the gaskets were. On the Bosch, f you carefully at their claim of "99%" efficiency (it's on the box) you'll notice there's no micron level attached to it. So the 99% is meaningless.

On the contrary, Amsoil uses the 15 micron level... which is a very high bar for a full flow filter.

.... since Amsoil doesn't make their own filters, I asked Amsoil who did. At the time (like 20 years ago) they said Hastings and/or Donaldson depending on the sizes. That's why I bought a case of the Hastings LF240.

But things do change, and I don't know whether Hastings is still involved. Here's a image of those two filters side-by-side:

I believe the factory fuel cut is at 7,200? @webby

I normally shift a little early around 7,200-7,500

Now here's an image of the WIX next to the Amsoil filter. Not only are the physical dimensions identical (or nearly so) some of the parts are the same too.

If you have anything wrong 7800rpm could get you a blown engine, Honda ran a perfect engine in the lab, yours isn't. If your fuel supply is off and you go lean good by engine.:paper: The redline cut off is set at 7200, going 600rpm more would be very hard on the engine and your decreasing its life. I would think maybe 7500 would be safe. I set my rev limit on the srt-4 at 6500 and its redline is 6000. But I never really even hit 6000rpm somehow don't think its a good idea to go over redline. I have only blown one engine ever- VW bug those things are junk. Stay within safe zone is best for 99%, perhaps your the 1% er.:bananapop:

Yeah, 7200 is supposedly oem limit without flashpro/ktuner.

Bruce, bobistheoilguy has threads where they’ve said wix and amsoil had some identical metal stamping even inside. They claimed Donaldson was making the synthetic media for amsoil, but the casing was from wix assembly.

Vit viper and Derrick Robinson set my Factory set up tune to 7,500 once I started adding parts in I went to 7,800. Now on my boost Rob Rainer has my fuel cut at 7,800 I have faith in there ability to understand the limitations on the K24Z7 platform.

I know both Vit, Rob and Rob have set factory internal engines to above 8k RPMs without any problems.
