Apple CarPlay

I know, I know but if there's nothing else we can do about having CarPlay on the 9th Gen.

I did actually have a follow up question to your video. In your video you select a green icon on your iphone. Is that a carplay button? or some sort of third party software? i have an iphone 5s and i didn't recognize the button that you had pushed on your phone. Thanks for the info ^^

Honda just announced the 2016 Accord will be their first car to have CarPlay (and also Android Auto). So much for those old 2014 Civic promotional photos with CarPlay.

If you take a look at the pics on http://www.autoblog.com/2015/07/23/...-carplay-android-auto-official/#slide-3558665
That head unit is the same as ours with an extra bezel piece, its also the same as the promo pics from Apple. There may be hope..

Looks the same, sure. Same internals, doubt it. If it will physically fit Honda charges like 2k for their head units. Might as well go aftermarket if you want android auto or carplay

Wouldn't it be nice if, after they launch the 2016, they come out with a software update to enable CarPlay in the previous models with the same head unit.
My guess is, if you want CarPlay you're going to have to buy a newer car.
I think it was rotten of Honda to show the 2014 Civic head unit in the Apple ad and not to offer it.

No, it is not the same head unit. From the article and other sources, Honda calls the new head unit DisplayAudio+. New internals. Software update for first generation DisplayAudio stereos would be unlikely. That is how Honda does things. They should have had a disclaimer to state the 2014 images were a representation only and no guarantee CarPlay would be supported in the photo representation.

So for 2k I could probably get carplay if I buy the stereo from a Honda dealer. What aftermarket units work with my HondaLane Watch button and backup camera? If one did I'd switch to aftermarket unit asap!

No aftermarket stereos work with Honda's lane watch side camera. You would have to re-wire the rear camera or replace it with an aftermarket camera.

Many of us have iPhones right? If you go to Settings (in iOS 9) --> General --> Carplay
This looks very familiar to the 9th gens steering wheel...

the 2016 accord steering wheel is almost the same. It has carplay. The 2016 civic press conference said it also had carplay

Hyundai did it: http://9to5mac.com/2015/12/28/hyundai-carplay-update/

"
While Hyundai was one of the first major car brands to promise CarPlay in its vehicles as a selling point nearly two years ago, the automaker so far hasn’t actually shipped the update to add the feature it promised to customers. Compare that to Pioneer’s CarPlay support announced around the same time which brought the iPhone-based infotainment feature to all cars through aftermarket displays in 2014.

There may be some good news for Hyundai fans still waiting to test drive CarPlay, however, as USA Today reports that Hyundai is committing to rolling out an update to add the feature early next year."
