IHOP is celebrating its own National Pancake Day by giving away free pancakes.

The promotion runs between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. No purchase is necessary, and each customer gets one
short stack of three buttermilk pancakes. A short stack with bacon and eggs typically costs about $5.

In exchange for the free pancakes, customers are asked -- but not required -- to donate to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other local charities. The company says 100 percent of donations go to charity.
IHOP began National Pancake Day in 2006 and has raised $5.4 million for charity. The company hopes to surpass last year's $2.1 million by raising $2.3 million this year.
Typically Pancake Day is the day before Ash Wednesday, but IHOP says it decided to celebrate a week early this year.
Pancake Day is IHOP's flagship giveaway, but it holds promotions throughout the year. The other big one is just before Halloween, when children 12 and under can get a free "Scary Face Pancake."
