Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design, said:

“The all-new, seventh-generation Corvette deserved an all-new emblem. The new Crossed Flags design reflects the character of the next Corvette. The flags are much more modern, more technical, and more detailed than before – underscoring the comprehensive redesign of the entire car.”

GM pointed out that it looked at over more than 100 variations of the Crossed Flags logo, which has been a hallmark of the Corvette since its 1953 introduction, before it made a final selection.

GM had an official unveiling of the LT1 V8 which will power the 2014 Corvette C7 when it hits the market in late 2013.

Boasting a capacity of 6.2 liters, the first of the new Gen 5 family of Small Block engines has an output of 450HP and peak torque of 450 lb-ft (610 Nm) that help accelerate the 2014 Corvette from a standstill to 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than four seconds. For comparison, the current base version of the Corvette is fitted with a 6.2-liter LS3 small block rated at 430Hp and 424 lb-ft, allowing for a 0-60mph sprint in 4.2 seconds and EPA highway estimate of 16mpg city and 26mpg highway for the manual model.

“The Holy Grail for developing a performance car is delivering greater performance and more power with greater fuel economy and that’s what we’ve achieved”, said Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter, who adds that it will be “the most fuel-efficient 450HP car on the market”. The LT1 V8 incorporates many newer technologies such as direct injection, continuously variable valve timing, a high 11.5:1 compression ratio and a cylinder-deactivating Active Fuel Management system that all help it exceed the 2013 EPA-estimated 26 mpg on the highway. The new engine also features an all-aluminum block and oil pan, a dry-sump system with oil-spray piston cooling, advanced cooling and a cast version of the four-into-one exhaust manifold used on the Gen 4 LS7 unit.

“The Corvette LT1 represents the most significant redesign in the Small Block’s nearly 60-year history”, commented Sam Winegarden, vice president of Global Powertrain Engineering. “More than just great horsepower, the LT1 has been optimized to produce a broader power band. Below 4,000 rpm, the torque is comparable to that of the legendary, 7.0L LS7 of the current Corvette Z06.”

GM claims that its engineers have spent more than 10 million hours (!) of computational analysis during the development of the engine to optimize performance along and lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The LT1 that will power the Corvette C7 is the third engine in the model’s history to receive this designation, the other two being launched in 1970 (Gen 1) and 1992 (Gen 2). Even though we are sure that, like us, you still yearn to see the all-new Corvette, the two videos (one from GM itself and the other from GMInsideNews) of its LT1 V8 engine that follow will have to do for the time being.

GM Teases Aerodynamic Properties Of New Corvette
“The all-new Corvette integrates more high-performance aerodynamic features than ever before, many taken directly from Corvette Racing,” he said. “For example, the front grill and radiator flow paths reduce lift, improving vehicle stability at high speeds by keeping the car pressed to the pavement. In addition, functional vents increase track capability by channeling air to the brakes, as well as heat exchangers for the transmission and differential.”

Kirk Bennion, Corvette exterior design manager supports the same adding that the C7 will be exciting to look at as well:
“Its sculpted design excites in all the ways that a Corvette has for six decades, with elements carefully shaped in the wind tunnel to increase airflow potential and improve cooling for a system that is as efficient as possible,” stated Bennion. “It’s said that form follows function, but in the case of the aerodynamic 2014 Corvette, form and function work cohesively to produce beautiful purpose.”

hope you don't mind, but I merged this video with the other corvette unveiling stuff as it comes out. That was an amazing vid!

Corvette Renderings Leaked....

The drawings, which may or may not be sourced from a General Motors' service manual, show the seventh generation Corvette's profile, rear end design with the very Camaro-like tail lamps and perhaps more importantly, a detailed outline of the interior, including the driver-centric dashboard.
