Visitors to Subway’s Facebook Page got treated to some off-brand messaging on Wednesday thanks to what appears to be a lack of vigilance regarding the Page’s “Posts by Others” link.

As of this writing, visitors who clicked that link got shown some anime porn by a user named Yichao Ravioli. Ravioli posted at least half a dozen ribald anime images that make creative use of Subway’s signature sandwiches.

The gaffe was spotted by journalist Lauren Orsini of The Daily Dot.

Can somebody tell me why the hell everyone is posting anime porn to Subway's Facebook page? Yes, I checked /b/.

A rep from Subway said she was not aware of the posts.
David Griner, director of digital content for consultant Luckie & Co., says that Facebook has come a long way with language filters for objectionable posts, but images may still be hard to block. Griner says the good news for Subway is that most people won’t see the posts. “For 99% of the public, going to a post by others is a step too far,” he says. Griner, who manages 48 Facebook Pages on behalf of brands, says he usually schedules times throughout the day to screen for such content.

Update: According to The Daily Dot, the posts came from a Facebook Page dedicated to animated Japanese pop star Miku Hatsune and from a FacePunch forums thread. The report says that the pics weren’t a criticism of Subway but “just a bizarre juxtaposition.”
