Hello,

My name is Mike and I'm a new here.

I haven't got any vehicle, but now I want to buy Honda Civic. While I was looking for a car, I saw the term "VIN number" a few times. What is VIN and why it's so important?

The vin number is the unique combination of letters/numbers that identify every individual car. Think of it like a social security number for your car. You can see the history of used cars and whatnot from services such as carfax based on the vin. It will say if it's been in a flood, or maybe an accident etc. Recalls and other things such as service bulletins from honda will be issued based on the vin of the car. Say they determine there is a defective part, they'll say vin # XXXXX through vin XXXXX need a specific part replaced due to defect. The vin is up by the drivers side windshield.

you can also see a vin sticker applied to a lot of oem body panels like the doors, hood, trunk etc.
