You can own the 1st General Lee

View: http://youtu.be/9atltVol_Ak

The Dukes of Hazzard's first General Lee is going up for auction next month at theScottsdale Barrett-Jackson. This is the 1969 Dodge Charger that started it all and it's expected to change hands for something north of $450,000.

The car went underwent a six year restoration starting in 2001, when it was bought out of a junkyard where it had sat for 23 years. In its first jump, it cleared sixteen feet in the air and flew some 82 feet, but the landing (as you can see above) was so hard that its leaping career ended in one fell swoop.

Since the replica of this "Lee 1" recently sold for $450K, if you want to go home with this 383 V8-powered piece of Americana, you probably shouldn't start bidding unless you've got a cool half million in your pocket.

I'd rather have one of these, and it'd be cheaper too.

just found this -

The sad reality is this once historical car is nothing more than a vin swap. They didn't talk about it's condition it was in when found in the junkyard on the broadcast, but the car was a total mess. The only original parts on the car left are the firewall, windshield, and frame. The rest has cut up, sold to collectors, and replaced by 2 donor cars. It basically has no historical value left it in. They would have been better off leaving it in it's original condition.

If you really want to learn more about how this car was "restored" all you need to do is read through this thread...

Also if you're interested on reading the story of how this car was found please check out...

It looks like the potential buyers of this car did their research and decided to stay away, which in all reality was the right thing to do.

Yeah I had no clue it had gone through that till now
