Latest NSX Prototype Appearing August 4th At Mid-Ohio Indy 200

In a way, Acura's handling of the presentation of the next generation NSX (to be badged as a Honda in certain regions where Acura is absent), reminds us of the excruciatingly long wait for GM's fifth generation Chevrolet Camaro and Volt back in the late 2000s, when we all had reached a point of saying "be done with it…".

Unfortunately, we won't be able to utter those words for another two years, and that's in addition to the 18 months that have already gone by since the release of the concept Mk1 at the 2012 Detroit motor show.
If you haven't had enough already, then you will be pleased to know that after the red-hued NSX in China, Tony Stark's NSX Roadster in the Iron Man movie, the NSX Concept Mk2 in Detroit, and probably another appearance that we don't remember right now, you'll be pleased to know that Acura will soon show a newer prototype version of its hybrid sports car.

"Acura fans, here’s your exclusive first look at the new NSX prototype," Honda's subsidiary said in a Facebook message. "See it take a lap August 4th before the Mid-Ohio Indy 200. Live at 3 p.m. EDT on NBC."

Acura has released a statement saying that the new NSX prototype "maintains the styling and proportions of the NSX Concept that debuted at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit while packaging the production vehicle’s mid-mounted V-6 engine mated to Acura's innovative new three-motor Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) system."

I'm hoping that it gets the balanced 50/50 weight distribution like the previous gens. With the addition of the SH-AWD plus the electric motors, I can see this car cutting through corners very well.

We recently learned from one of our sources that Acura was seen testing two renowned supercars at Honda Research Facility in Ohio, where the brand's upcoming NSX hybrid sports car is currently being developed, and which is located right next to Honda's Performance Manufacturing Center that will produce the model starting in 2015.

"They took the wraps off a white McLaren MP4-12C. This surprised me since when McLaren was developing the legendary F1 they were testing Honda NSXs," our source told us. "They were also testing Audi R8s on a racetrack. It seems that the NSX is going to be a pretty cool car if they are using these."

You don't need to be an automotive expert to understand that the R8 and the MP4-12C were being evaluated as part of the development phase for the next generation NSX, but in regards to the McLaren model, we do wonder if its appearance has anything to do with Honda's recent hook-up with the British company for the 2015 Formula One Championship.

The partnership calls for Honda being responsible for the development, manufacture and supply a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 with an energy recovery system, while McLaren will be in charge for the development and manufacture of the chassis, as well as the management of the new team named "McLaren Honda".

We were also informed about Acura engineers looking at another car from our source, who told us, "a BMW 3 Series [was] completely taken apart" .

Honda and McLaren are reportedly considering a broader partnership than their previously announced Formula 1 engine supply deal.

Speaking to Autocar, McLaren F1 boss Martin Whitmarsh said the current deal is a "pure Formula 1 contract but we’ve already been looking at automotive technology and we’re sharing that very openly." He went on to say "Our road car strategy, at the moment, has no other automotive partner and Honda would be a good place to collaborate.”

Whitmarsh declined to go into specifics but speculation suggests the companies could sign a bilateral technical arrangement which would benefit road-going models from both automakers.
While a broader partnership sounds tantalizing Whitmarsh cautioned any benefits, from the proposed tie-up, would be several years off.

It does not sound like a Hybrid!

Knowing Honda, the NSX will probably sound a lot less tame compared to the videos they've been posting. It is a BEAUTIFUL car though.

Definitely, especially with the smog restrictions. Aftermarket companies will be all over this car. I hope CT-Engineering integrates a supercharger to this car like how they did to the previous gens. They would just have to deal with the new hybrid system.

yeah CT-E will be one of the 1st to start making parts for the car. Honda loves to throw them cars to mod. I think the people that buy the NSX are going to try and replicate the sound of the prototype. I know Pride makes an exhaust for the NA 1/2 that make the car sound BEAST !

NSX Study, Euro Civic Hatchback Update, And New Tourer To Debut At Frankfurt

Honda set to debut the updated version of the European market Civic hatchback, Tourer and NSX Study at Frankfurt Motor Show.

While no imagery was released, Honda stated that the five-door will feature "exterior and interior design refinements" without elaborating further. Both the refreshed hatchback and the new estate version of the Civic will be built at Honda's UK manufacturing factory with sales to begin in early 2014.

Joining these two important models for Honda's European operations will be the NSX Concept II that was shown first in Detroit this past January and then in Geneva in March, a McLaren Honda MP4/4 Heritage F1 Car with a 1500cc V6 twin-turbo engine from 1988, and the Civic racer from the 2013 FIA World Touring Car Championship.
