Rays/Volk Center Caps on XXR Wheels?

Not sure if anyone has......

Maybe you can find out the size on XXR wheel and I can measure the Flat Volk cap I have at the house or maybe the measurament of the cap is out there in the interwebz.

According to this review the Volk wheel bore/cap size is 73mm also. http://squarespokes.com/12/review-volk-racing-se37k-17x7-5-40-pc-gloss-black/

The things I am unsure about are:
1. Does it fit even though the size is right? The Volk caps use some weird o-ring instead of clips to secure the cap. (EDIT: okay, found clip versions)
2. Which color cap best matches the XXR chromium black?

It will be pretty tough to match the color. I think I would go with gloss black. There are some places online that sell "black chrome" vinyl.....you could wrap the caps with that.

Reviving this thread.

Anyone know if o-ring style caps work on XXR wheels? I found that the diamond black Volk flat caps should match the XXR chromium black pretty well. I feel like the o-ring caps will stay in the bore better than the clip type. Does anyone know if they fit? I know the size is right, but I mean do the o-rings still work on XXR wheels.

I recommend not putting Rays/Volk labeled center caps on XXRs. I feel that there is nothing wrong with XXRs, I own a set, also Konigs, but I don't think it's right to try and pass them as something significantly better.

However if you are just putting the blank centers on there I see no problem with that.

In any case... yes the center caps are ugly on the XXR wheels. That long barrel type thing they like to use. I havent had an issue with either type of retaining system on center caps. I think the clips are usually a lot tighter fit though. You should be fine either way. You might also want to try and just order one cap at a time to make sure it fits before blowing a lot of $$. Those things are stupid expensive no matter who makes them.

We are running the standard XXR center caps but instead of the chrome color they come i bought the Duplicolor black chrome kit from AutoZone/Pep Boys. It actually comes out pretty nice. That might be a close color to the wheels you have as well.

I just want the blanks. I don't mind owning replicas as long as there aren't logos on them. I don't even care for volk logo caps.

But awesome, thanks for the advice. I want the o-rings because clips can break or bend. Seems like o rings would stay in better, which is important for $50 caps

Yeah, I found the clips were always really really tight so taking them out or putting them back in more than once ever usually resulted in one bent or broken one. I try to just leave the damn things in if I can. I can see Rays/Volk caps being expensive but I had to pay frickin $25 for a replacement Konig cap!!

This sucks. I was all ready to spend $200 on those Volk a-flat caps in diamond black, which should fit and match the XXR 530 chromium black perfectly, and then they can't get them for a long time.

There was another site, a much smaller company that makes wheels and center caps, that makes a billet center cap that is round and brushed aluminum for $25 each. They also have flat plastic caps that would fit my wheels too. I want to buy those but I can't remember the site or brand! Anybody? I doubt anyone knows what I am talking about. :(

For anyone wondering, the cap size the XXR 530 accepts is actually 62mm. The bore is 73.1mm, but only when measured the back side of the wheel (such as when fitting hub rings).

Volk a-flat o-ring or clip style caps should fit (my only worry would be the axle nut clearance on the front wheels), and diamond black is the color that should match up closely to XXR chromium black. However, they are expensive and hard to get. Dali Racing says that they have 2 in stock in diamond black and i'd have to wait 4-12 weeks for more. They had a set in black but I passed on them due to mismatching. I'm going to try the cheap black ones I found on ebay first, for $18.99; they are flat and colored black, and 62.5mm. I think they will fit. They won't match, but they're only $18.99. I wasn't going to spend $200 on mismatched Volk caps; I wasn't going to paint or alter them either at that price.

I don't know if I mentioned it already but if you end up with silver caps the duplicolor shadow/black chrome paint kit works pretty well. I think the color should match or be close to the XXR chromium black. You should be able to find it at a pepboys/autozone.

I might end up doing that on the black caps. Thanks.

You know what? If you want I'll send you my kit since im not going to be using it again anytime in the near future. Shoot me a PM with your address if you want the cans. It's just two spray cans, one of the black chrome color and another of clear coat.

That's really generous of you, but how much did they cost? I'm thinking that it might be hardly more money to buy locally than for you to ship them (which I would want to pay for of course). Otherwise we're kinda just wasting money shipping them between states.

Oh right. I didn't even think of that..... I was just looking for a nice way to get them out of the kitchen where they've been hiding! They're less than $20 at autozone. NM then! Heh.
