toddler car seat

So we have a Recaro toddler car seat and love it. But it's making indintions marks on the backseat. Anyone know the best padding to get to put under it? Some of the ones we've tried don't work very well.

Blanket? Memory foam pad....piece of foam from a craft store?

I don't have any kids but my brother does and he had bought a seat protector from Amazon that basically looks like an odd seat cover designed for child seats. In my opinion i think that is a lot safer than putting something under the seat that could cause failure if in an accident.

I use a towel folded for added thickness of course. Works well, seat holds tight.

I've tried a few of the little covers. They work ok, but still leave little marks. I don't want to use something like a towel, from what I understand we could get a ticket or fined if the seat isn't properly installed.
