Had the chance to race an 8th gen today while on the way to school. Was on a main street during the day so didn't go that fast. Started on a 20 roll, and i was in 2nd gear, he was in first it appeared since when he shifted i was still at like 5-6k rpm. He had an intake and flash-pro and we were neck to neck. Maybe if i would have started off in 1st i would have taken him.
The torque we have sure is nice though, only got to 60-70 and only had to shift once, he shifted 2 or 3 times and i was still right next to him.
Hope to see him again, as this is the first person that was actually fun and we were neck to neck.
It was a black civic si around the miramar area, just incase you are reading this say hi.

What have been your experiences racing 8th gens? Do we have a racing thread here?

I just went for a drive, and had i started in 1st i definitely would have taken him.. I am just so used to shifting out of 1st at around 10 mph when driving regular, that i thought 20 mph would be redlining it, but 20 mph is more like 4-5k rpms which is right at vtec. He stayed vtec the whole time, and me going 3-4k rpms in 2nd also slowed me down, but the extra torque evened it out.
Hope i see him again tomorrow ;)

Yeah....no. Lol. Street racing isn't allowed on this site. We try to not promote illegal racing. :badger:

Sorry for that, didn't know, no wonder i don't see any threads on it....
I dont promote it either, but when the lanes are clear whats the problem taking it 60-70

Not for racing, but for the sake of running-in(breaking-in) the engine........... Putting the engine though it's rpm paces........... I'd suggest starting on the on ramp to an interstate system and while on the ramp.... take it up to red-line(1st gear) and hold it there for 10 sec.... and slowly bring the rpm down ....... then shift into 2nd and RLine it again and hold it a few sec and slowly back off again....and if the speed limit allows repeat in 3rd....... I have a non Si and while I was putting her though the passes (totally legal)........... I saw 40mph in 1st and 70 in 2nd.... Of course "our" gearings are different....... but the point is, not to worry about taking it up to red line.... and holding it there for 10/20 sec's .......... it's made to do that......... I do it every so often because I believe it needs it on occasion ....... usually the thing that keeps ppl away from high rpm's is the sound....... on my bike I wear earplugs, in the car I just turn the sound up on my sound system........... But watch the tach and stay about 1/2 clicks off the red.........even though the engine has a rev-limiter and you can't hurt it if you did tap it out......... I'm of the old school it's best to hold just short of the red line.......... the trick is not to back out of the high rev fast , but to let it off slowly.................. watch the tach and the road around you..........
