Hey everyone, I want to get your thoughts on a problem I'm having. Our 8thGen is perfectly fine, however, my 6thGen is having some issues.

1998 Civic LX
D16Y7 w/ 174,989 miles

Currently it has a roaming idle. Idles between 1000rpm - 2000rpm constantly. I've been looking online and most people say it's Cel P0505, which is the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV). I have no check engine errors but the car is old and doesn't always show codes. :)

I don't really want to spend nearly $200 for a new IACV, so what do you all think?

I found this link on how to clean it...http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1575913

I'd try that first. Read through a few pages there:

this will only help if your idle problem is coolant related.

Also try a tune up ignition related
-spark plugs
-spark plug wires
-02 Sensor, big one on older cars

Then move onto fuel related
-fuel filter
-fuel injectors

Then vacuum
-check for intake manifold leaks
-exhaust manifold leaks
-exhaust leaks
-clean your pcv valve or replace

As a last straw, do a sea foam cleaning. Search for that one.
