European Civics ( hatchback 2013) are fitted a rear fog lamp on the rear nearside. Is the identical looking non operative one on the nearside a complete dummy or is there a bulb holder there, or alternatively is there an easy method of connecting it so there is an operative rear fog lamp on each side.

@ADExternal has a led strip connected up to his brake lights down there.

Not really. Very stringent annual testing of vehicles would preclude that. The obvious solution would be to obtain (for the UK RH drive) a left hand side fog lamp. Similarly if left hand drive cars want two, simply but a right hand drive rear fog lamp. Very often the wiring is already in place because of the markets in which the vehicles are sold. Thanks for your interest.
The reasoning is a little more than purely decorative. Imagine driving on a German Autobahn in a right hand drive vehicle in thick spray or fog and vehicles hurling past at 100 mph and you only have one rear fog lamp of the nearside!. Penny pinching by the manufacturers - they all do it for the sake of a few pennies. Some have the bulb holders present but barred off or simply no bulb fitted.

Does this "fog light" you speak of shine red like a brake light? Any pics of what they look like?

It is a red light fitted at the rear bottom corner of the vehicle and accessed from underneath. The vehicle is a Honda Civic 2013 hatchback.

You may have luck with info specific to that car at civinfo.com. A lot of euro civic hatchback owners use that forum. Most of the users here have the US/Canada models. They may be of more help with the hatchback. Sorry

Many thanks. I didn't realise that the hatchback was not produced for the US market.

I believe this is more of what you are looking for?

You can find this and my others on eBay for $50 or so. In order to install the light pictured above on a 9thgen, you will have to cut your bumper and run wiring to the lamp. There are some that come with brackets so you can mount/hang them below a rear bumper.

US cars do not require this so there will not be any wiring or any place to mount a "rear fog lamp", on any US sold vehicle.

ADExternal did the next best thing to keep it stock looking and still implement a "rear fog lamp". Hope this helps you.....
