Hi Guys,

I went ahead and bought a new Honda civic EX. Thanks to you all for your inputs. However, just today. three days after buying the car, I opened the hood and noticed that a metallic part near the engine is rusting. Is this normal? Please see pictures below.

Regards,
Nikhil

The header/downpipe is uncoated metal and will tend to rust over time. If the car was sitting around on a dealer lot for awhile (especially in humid or salty areas) then this can happen. It is purely cosmetic though, and will not affect your MPG, performance, or engine in any way.

In your case, it does seem to have a decent layer of rust. It could be to do with how Honda stores the headers/downpipes before they are installed on new Civics.

I can't even seem to get my head around what view we're looking into the engine bay, or where this is...?

Heat cycles might have something to do with it in the long run.

The part he is talking about is under the heat shield Webby.
