Is network marketing a scam?

Anyone else heard of this? There a lot of big companies out there developing these network marketing chains an it basically is a pyramid scheme from what I can tell.. There can be money made there but are you helping people or ripping them off? My fiancé is looking at it as a way out of debt but I'm not sure.. Very skeptical even though it was suggested by one of her close friends
 
Umm..... if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Anything that claims to be an easy way out of debt probably isn't. Recruiting new people is one of the main ways they keep the $$ flowing. I bet her friend gets some sort of kickback for hooking you guys. I say stay away.

As it sits I'm not investing any time or money in it, she can give it a try for a few weeks. No start up costs so if she wants to try and make us money in her spare time (she is on maternity leave right now) then she can. They never said I'd be rich or it would be quick. But I'm with you I'm staying back and watching for now
 
As long as they don't come up with a reason for you/gf to have to pay "anything" or give up any account numbers, or credit #'s.
Any mention of you/gf needing to invest or pay out anything..... STOP, and don't look back.
 
Many students in my college were lured into being 'representatives' for Amway. Amway is one of the large companies that does these big pyramid schemes. It's terrible because they were brainwashed to thinking that they'll be rich in an instant. As if education is no longer important. I went to one of their sessions bc my friend asked me to go with him. It was the most bogus and ridiculous thing I've ever seen. It was too good to be true. When the presentation ended, the rep was asking everyone if they wanted to sign up. I said 'no' while my friend said 'yes'. The rep told me that I won't get rich like my other friend (or him for that matter). He definitely wanted more people to join so he can go up a level in that pyramid scam. My friend worked his *** off to actually make a few bucks. And it led him to spend much less time with his friends, school, and family. It's a good thing he quit that b.s. in a few weeks.

This is one reason why I don't like the Orlando Magic. Their arena is called 'Amway Center'.

Sounds familiar. Several friends of mine have been sucked into Market America. They haven't made a dime but claim it's the best thing since sliced bread. A couple of my friends even quit their "real" jobs to just focus on Market America LOL! I wouldn't join any of these "companies" even if it was my last resort for potential income.
 
Thanks for the input guys.. I'm into business and I will be asking for cold hard proof of numbers. They say there is a way to have no start up costs and it takes about a month to be profitable
 
Also I will say the woman was very professional and did express the best way to conduct this type of franchise is get people under you, however if you wish you can just promote the goods and services offered which were some well known brands. If it doesn't cost any money to start, and all I have to do is buy household stuff I would buy anyways then why not give it a shot?!
 
What company is it? Personally, I wouldn't give in based on my past experiences with Amway.
 
TBH, those who are successful in network marketing know someone higher up on that "pyrimid." For instance, another friend of mine. He's a part of YOR Health and actually does make money, but his cousin is fairly high up and helps out a lot.
 
It's a company called I biz and we would be meeting with the owners (either very successful or owning cars, taking vacations etc they can't afford) but they do deal with amway!! One of the contracts they hold are them so I'm a little hesitant since you ha a bad experience with them.. Could be the way they conduct business though, just a terrible leader kinda thing. Usually a pyramid or Ponzi scheme only involves money exchanging hands you pay to be a member and get others to pay. But with this you pretty much show people good deals online and if they start buying it regularly (it's stuff you would by for more money at the grocery store anyway) you make money. No one they introduce this to pays them for anything. The companies who want advertising done pay. But again, I will re evaluate Sunday as I have done a lot I research on the subject and there are schemes as well as successful business models that are based on principles not spineless sales tactics. Just gotta figure out which one this is!!

The owner of Amway owns the team. But hey lay off! Amway sucks but go magic!
 
I've heard of all sorts of these "we're not a pyrimid" schemes.
"Multilevel marketing companies"

I know people who have done all of those. Some that are still trying. Most of which went for a while, but never got far.
If you're one of the initial entry level people that started it up, you'll make bank. If you're one of those that got brought in by someone who brought someone who brought someone....you'll be excited, but you're one of the last into it and you likely won't make anything. It's getting to the point of everyone getting tired of hearing about it because their friends, neighbors, relatives all do it or know someone who has.

As soon as I hear someone trying to mention one of these "multilevel marketing companies" to me, I cut them off. I don't want to be a part of that...lol

Of course you want everyone you know to sign on under you, you make money if they get anyone to sign on. It's annoying.

I'm getting extremely weary of our meeting tonight, I'm thinking our time could be spent doing much more productive things
 
You only make by how much you annoy people that you know. Is it worth annoying your friends and family and possibly ruining relationships?
That's how I see it.
 
I've actually removed people from facebook or turned people off of my news feed for constantly advertising one of their bi-yearly multilevel marketing finds.
