help with choosing a head unit

Nice! Thanks so much for the info.. I've read a lot of threads here with people saying they lost the handsfree bluetooth when they went aftermarket but I honestly love that feature in my car.
 
A lot of people in the east are going with Pioneer HUs. I don't what series all of these are however. Would be cool to have reverse camera hooked up to it.

So fellas, approx. how much would I need to upgrade my crappy LX stereo? I don't want to spend a lot. I'm thinking a small amp, small sub, and rear speakers. Don't want any hiss noises.

Suggestions? Approx. price?
 
Depends on what kinda sound you want. Basic replacement of stock stereo systems to get good sound:
Alpine 6 1/2 type S all around. Possibly an amp (depending on budget and your preference). You can find new type S speakers on Amazon for $49-$69/ set.
I have type R speakers and a huge 4 channel amp and it's incredibly loud. Like I said earlier- car audio has been a part of my life for a long time. It's a passion. It's not just a job. I do research all the time keeping myself up to date just to see what's new. I love it

I don't need loud. Just a little boost. What small amp would you recommend?
Are Type R speakers a lot better than Type S? Worth the extra $?

BTW. I don't understand why you said " possibly an amp". All I have read says that without an amp even high quality speakers sound like crap with the stock HU.
 
Well yes and no for the amp. If you want an amp- alpine also makes one that goes behind the radio or under the dash. It's KTP-225? I believe. $99-$150. Comes with everything. Same power as if you buy the smallest alpine amp.
I think the type Rs are definitely better than type S. But if money is a factor- don't spend the extra $50-$100 on type Rs.
 
I say possibly an amp. You don't need loud- so I recommend replacing all four speakers first. Then see how it sounds. You may like the sound without the amp.

what amp you running? because honestly this is the SAME set up ive been planning since my last car r component in the front coax in the rear. my buddy is trying to sell me an old alpine 4 channel amp (dono off hand what model)
 
Lol Alpine MRP-F550. A buddy was hurting for money and I bought it for $50.
