Mother Of All Whore Threads Non-VIP Edition v.1

I've contacted 3 shops to see if they sell tein parts. So far 2 said no. Waiting on the 3rd. Just contacted tein directly to see if it's even possible. The street basis z I have are currently on sale for less than $900 which isn't bad if I have to go that route. Found all for calipers for $250 online. Probably another 2-300 for pads and rotors.

Or I clean the strut off and sell the car. Spend the money on the Tacoma.

@Janz3n can you confirm the torque specs for the alternator bolts? The top 2 15mm bolts are 42 ft lbs? And not sure on the 16mm bolt and the 14mm bolt down at the bottom.

Also the idle pulleys are 18 ft lbs and the tensioner pulley bolts are 37 ft lbs. Correct?

Ummmm. Sure. I can get those for you because I torque that stuff.

I think that's all you asked for.

I also noticed that the power wire for the alternator is running on that larger hose. Which has rubber through the tape/shield stuff and rubbing down on the wire coating. Gonna have to find some rubber or something to cover that spot back up.

Random question, but has anyone ever swapped out their factory stereo for one of the aftermarket touchscreens that have some modern features (wireless CarPlay and backup camera being the ones I'm kinda looking for)? I'm sure it's been done, just that I didn't find what I was looking for in reviews/searches.

Back story is, I saw this unit pop up on fb MarketPlace. I messaged the guy to ask some questions but he was useless. So, I got to searching on Amazon for a similar piece and found prices and descriptions of all kinds with little to no consistency or recognizable brands. I wouldn't mind adding some of that to my 2012 Civic (backup cameras weren't added until 2013, and I don't think CarPlay was offered until 2016; wireless CarPlay wasn't until 2021, I think). But, these things look sketchy; only reasonable review I found was that it wasn't as loud as the stock unit.

Here are a few other listings:

Link 2
Link 3
Link 4

So, I took a bit of a risk and got one of these units:

Installation was fairly straight forward and after some frustration and troubleshooting, I did manage to get the unit to power up. However, I have been unsuccessful at getting any audio out of the unit. I found a guy on Facebook who had one in a car he was selling; but, he's gatekeeping in providing any info (says it's complicated, only he can do it, and you have to cut a wire and connect it somewhere else) - i.e. he wants me to pay him for his time (not that it's wrong, just I don't think that it is as complicated as he's leading on). Anyhow, I've searched online a bit and in the forums here but haven't found much info on these units. I'd really like to try and figure it out but I'm hoping someone else can point me in the right direction here as I'm not seeing the forest through the trees. :(

That link doesn't work for me.

Finally figured it out.

First, was having power issues which turned out to be a bent pin in the connector.

Audio was resolved by connecting the amp control signal due to having the factory premium audio system amplifier.

Now that it’s working, overall, I’ve been reasonably happy now that it’s working. One down side, you lose signal to the factory subwoofer as there is no connector to drive it. So, I spliced into that harness with the one from the Right Rear speaker to send that signal to the factory amp and drive the sub. A bit ghetto, but it works.

Do you like the radio over all though? How's the bezel? I assume you have an older si without the fake carbon trim?
I had a cheap android radio briefly in my golf and hates the interface so much that I sold it. I've also contemplated putting an aftermarket radio in my civic but it's not worth it to me any more. It works good enough and I don't drive far enough to make use of android auto. Just use a phone holder if I need GPS directions now.

Started working on a list about my car for my for sale ad. Also arranging to have the exterior detailed ( quick Clay bar and polish ) by my coworker for $150.

Well, I’ve only used it in testing basically at my home, but, it brings up CarPlay which is what I was going for. I was previously using my phone for things which worked well enough; but, it had problems which I couldn’t resolve with this car and Bluetooth.

My Civic is an early 9th gen so no fake CF trim. Mine also doesn’t have the integrated vent like the later 9th gen’s did. The bezel on this thing fits the interior reasonably well. Once you pop off all the little white plastic retaining clips from the factory unit and transfer them to the aftermarket unit, it snaps perfectly into place. The grey is just slightly off; the color is passable but the sheen and texture are off enough to easily notice. Not blaring, but you can tell it isn’t OEM. The only fitment issue I had (once I got past all the wiring nonsense) was that the factory gauge bezel doesn’t want to clip into the left side of the radio for some reason. I assume it is a slight misalignment with the tabs on the aftermarket unit but I gave up because of the lateness of the hour (after basically spending 2days on it) so just popped the plastic clips off of the gauge bezel and pressed it into place and it is holding well enough.

It was never my plan to change the radio out from the factory unit; I was actually happy with it. However, the constant issues I’ve been having with Bluetooth connectivity just got to be too much to where I wanted to source an alternative solution which led me to this thing. There was the bonus of having a backup camera added as part of it all too (my Civic was just before the factory option in 2013). Plus, the reduced cost compared to buying a full headunit from a reputable manufacturer; I figured it was worth a try. It wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped; the sh!t directions contributed to this significantly. I’ll give it some time; I’ve heard these things can be buggy as well so who knows if I’ll keep it long term. But, if it makes my commute less frustrating, that’s what I’m going for. Ask me again in a few weeks to see if I haven’t ripped it out after commuting across Orlando a couple of times.

I think my ideal setup would possibly be the factory pieces and parts from a later 9th gen with CarPlay but that would take quite a bit to source; I’d almost have to buy another car for parts to make that happen. It just wasn’t economical (I think I’d even need the trunk lid as the 2012 version doesn’t have the camera provision-the plate light is in the way).

I wasn't aware any 9th gens had carplay factory?
I think as I dug into this, it was available in the 15 model; not sure about the 14. I could be wrong as I looked at this a few months ago and it’s possible I’m either confused or mixed things up in my head. Regardless, my 12 doesn’t have the options.

I don't believe any 9th gen came with it. I know swapping a CRV head unit is popular to get OEM carplay in a 9th gen though.

Hmm, I hadn’t come across anything that said that. You have a link to some writeups on that topic?

I don't have anything specific. This came up when I searched.

I believe there is a lot of forum posts about the topic though. I also think it only has apple car play and no android auto which is annoying because apple sucks. Android rulez.

The receptionist at my work has been wanting a BBQ for a while. She's single with like 3 kids so we all try and help her out a bit. My wife does her hair for free. I found a free BBQ with a propane tank with propane. Just needs a new grate. This helps my need for getting useful free stuff but not keeping it for myself. Although my mother in-law came home last night and was going to sit me down and have a talk about how many BBQs I have when she saw this.

I currently have 3 myself but I don't use our propane BBQ and for some reason my wife won't let me get rid of it. Haven't used it in over a year and I'm pretty sure there's mold on the grates now.
