I could get behind the idea.....maybe something in between the GR86 and the Supra/Corolla GR? Maybe drop the Supra/BMW and make their own sport 2 door coupe?

These are the 2 renderings I'm seeing the most....

Could all be BS

I’m totally down for a new 2-door coupe that blends the GR86 and Supra. I think ditching the Supra/BMW mashup for something original could be really cool. Honestly, it’s hard to know what’s real and what’s just hype, but I’m all for anything that spices up the car scene.

Toyota has been refreshingly transparent about its forward-thinking engine strategy. Earlier this year, the company announced it is developing new 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter engines designed to accommodate electrification and alternative fuels. This initiative is part of a collaborative effort with Subaru and Mazda to secure the future of the internal combustion engine (ICE). Among these, the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine stands out as a strong contender for the new Celica. In its high-performance configuration, it is expected to deliver an impressive 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS).

With the Celica’s comeback, playful hints of an MR2 revival, and updates looming for the GR86, Toyota seems eager to reignite its sports car glory days. Let’s just hope it’s not all smoke and mirrors.

Toyota Trademarks GR Celica Name

The eighth generation of the Celica is currently under development by the Toyota Gazoo Racing division

  • Toyota Motor Corporation recently filed a trademark for the GR Celica nameplate in Brazil.
  • Company officials have confirmed the Celica’s return to the lineup in the near future.
  • The model will likely feature a new turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, producing up to 400 hp.

Toyota has confirmed the Celica nameplate is making a comeback, set to be sold alongside the next-generation GR 86. Now, a newly uncovered trademark filing suggests the revived model will be called the GR Celica, bringing it in line with Toyota’s performance-focused GR lineup.

The trademark was filed by Toyota Motor Corporation with Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property and Ministry of Economy, with an application date of January 15 and a publishing date of February 4. Unfortunately, beyond the name, the filing doesn’t offer any new details about the upcoming eighth-generation sports car.

I saw some YT vids of Tokyo Auto Salon where people showed the new 4 banger 2.0 motor on display with a high mounted turbo. Looked like a small package but could be the upcoming Celica motor.
