This is so difficult for me to even type even after all this time.
Accident occurred Monday before Christmas, Bronx, New York.
Car is a 2012 Honda Civic Coupe.

Now, this is going to come completely out-of-pocket. I heard I can go online and order the pieces which is great because I'm thinking Fender, Bumper and Hood say... Combined really doesn't seem all that bad except there are all these extra pieces and screws that I'm thinking I wouldn't need because they should be on my car already, correct?

I'm sorry I'm a total Noob. The car at this moment has already accumulated $700 in storage fees. When I had mentioned that I was thinking of going ahead and ordering the genuine Honda Parts I was told don't because there are extra pieces, etc...

I have been waiting for quite sometime for an estimate which I overheard could be $10,000.
As I mentioned, I'm a complete Noob and a complete idiot because this accident was entirely my fault so if anyone can help in anyway, point me in the right direction, just anything at this point I would more than greatly appreciate it. Feel free to pm me.

I just want to fix my car and have her looking just like she did when I got her. She was brand new.
Thanks

so I take it you do not have insurance... or you're not having it repaired through insurance? Even if you order the parts yourself... who's going to do the installation/paint? You need to decide on a body shop to do the work. They'll look at the car and tell you what it'll cost in repairs with a list of parts being replaced.

you will obviously have a new hood, fender, front bumper, headlight... and most likely a new hood latch assembly, and whatever else behind the bumper. Radiator damage, crash support beam damage, ... headlight frame mounts, ... any airbags that deployed?

Looking at that ... it's not horrible. It doesn't look like you'd have any damage to the engine itself. Labor and paint will be an expense. If it's just the parts mentioned above, you're nowhere near 10k. You need to get the car to a reputable collision shop or dealership to have an estimate/work done.

Yes my airbag was deployed. I also have 3 flats.

They mentioned having to put my car up on a frame machine and have the frame pulled.

If there's frame damage, you definitely won't be fixing that yourself. As a self-proclaimed "noob," there's no way you'll be able to make your car good as new with simple hand tools.

Is your car financed? Or did you pay for it outright? Nearly every lender in the US has strict insurance requirements, usually making full coverage (collision and comprehensive coverage) mandatory.

A good rule of thumb to remember for next time: if you can't afford to replace it out of pocket, insure it.

steering wheel bag deployed, or both fronts... side curtain bags? Each bag deployed can run a decent amount. Frame damage means it needs to be put on a machine/straightened. 3 flats - like a hundred and something per tire to replace.

My cars leased and I didn't want to involve my insurance at all.

One airbag was deployed, mine.

Thanks for much for your helpful responses.

You need a collision center/dealership to quote you. Someone needs to get under it to see what damage is done & to what extent. If you have insurance, use it. Your deductible is going to be a lot less than the out of pocket expense.

hood like - 160
fender like -70
bumper like - 300
headlight like - 300
tires - 1XX per tire
airbag -
frame damage? -
crash beam? -
paint -
labor -
unknowns -

3-4k or something? but that's a pretty worthless estimate without knowing the damage behind the hood.

just for comparison, when my wife's 2007 Civic got rear ended, visible damage was limited to just the rear bumper and the spare tire well. No airbag deployment, and car drove fine. However, closer inspection showed slightly bent frame rails, and the total estimate came out to about $3500. Since you're dealing with the front end, frame damage, and airbag deployment, there's a lot more involved. Although parts and labor costs in the mainland are probably a little lower than it was in Hawaii, I wouldn't be surprised if you get an estimate over $5k even without using OEM Honda parts.

You need to handle this like a big boy (or girl). Totoal noob to what? Accidents? You have insurance for a reason. Use it. Suck it up. We all make mistakes. Do this right and move on. You cannot do this on the cheap. It just won't work. Who do you think you're going to fool? The leasing company? When you turn it in? Uh uh . . . sorry to be so blunt, but you need it.

Easily 8K + in damage there. I have worked at a few bodyshops over the years, and also RM-BASF Diamont refinish certified. You aren't going to foot that out of pocket, go through your insurance. They will do an estimate on the car, add in towing and storage charges, replacement ( rental ) to determine if it's close enough to write it off or repair it.

At a retail level, just the materials to refinish the hood both sides, the front fenders, blend onto the doors and shoot the bumper cover would be in the $1K region alone. 2 quarts + of basecoat, 1 pint flexed clearcoat for the bumper cover, 1 pint of satin clear ( underhood ) and 1 1/2 to 2 quarts of clear to shoot the topside of the hood, the outside of the fenders and the doors. Other chemicals needed - 2K primer surfacer, flex agent for the clearcoat, reducers, cleaners, hardeners, and adhesion promoter for the bumper.

+1 for stepping up and getting this taken care of correctly! Don't not go through the insurance. **** happens.. Lease or not.

I can't believe you are thinking about NOT going through the insurance.. That's not smart IMO.

Huh? :confuzzled:got me confused lol anyways....
I say just go through insurance, rather pay a deductible than buy the parts myself and pay $10k...just seems obvious to go through insruance

I had to read his post twice as well ...double negative. He's saying GO through insurance. "Don't not go through insurance" - saying don't pay for the damages yourself.

Sorry.. I should proof-read what I type :giggle: :fail:
