Hi guys, sorry if this is a repeat thread, I've looked all over but cant find anyone with the same problem. I got my 2013 civic about a week ago and i needed a boost in the bass. i have a 2000 watt amp and a 12" alpine type R. I know the sub and amp work great together as i hooked them up in my other car just to make sure. i have the speaker wire to RCA converters and the amp comes on just fine when i unplug the RCA's. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong any help would be appreciated. I'm new to new cars but i hear a lot of times they protect themselves from too much draw so you don't blow your speakers. could this be my problem?

OEM doesnt have amp protect mode but most of the newer amps do. Many times, the protection indicator will blink to indicate the reason the amp is in protect mode. The owner's manual is the best source to help you decode the blink sequence. This is common on older Alpine amplifiers. The first thing you need to check is the on-board fuses plugged into the amplifier (if it has them). Not many amplifiers will illuminate the protection light when the fuses are blown but a few will so you need to check this. Not all amps have low voltage protection but some do (MTX, Rockford and most of the Japanese brands). This means that you must confirm that you have sufficient voltage reaching the amplifier for it to operate properly but hopefully youre LOC is functioning properly to prevent this issue. Last is your grounding, make sure they are all metal to metal contact and not loose.

the protect light doesn't flash, just stays on and the fuses all look good. I've tried the speaker wires in every combination i could so idk what else it could be. the ground seems fine and i got the sub to bump for about 5 seconds but it went right back into protect mode. ps, the amp isn't hot or anything so I know it isn't burning up and my friend hooked it up in his SRT-4 a little while ago and had no problems.

Does the OEM amp work all three rear speakers? i have my incoming speaker wires spliced into right and left rear, but if they are already amplified could that cause my aftermarket amp to throw a protect light?
