An Anderson man who went to Shasta County Superior Court on Monday for an appearance on a stolen vehicle charge was arrested later in the day for driving a stolen pickup, police said.
He also had a suspended driver’s license, police said.
Noel Roy Holloway, 32, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, felony vandalism, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.
Police said the arrest came as officers continued to investigate a Friday burglary of a storage building on Eastside Road in Redding.
During the burglary, police said, a maroon colored pickup was stolen.
On Monday, a Redding motorcycle officer spotted the reported stolen pickup traveling southbound on Highway 273 north of Westwood Avenue.
Additional officers were called to assist.
Officers followed the pickup to northbound Paso Drive and attempted to conduct a high risk car stop on the pickup, police said.
The driver failed to stop and sped into the southwest parking lot of Sycamore School.
The driver opened the door of the pickup and jumped out of the moving truck, police said, adding he rolled on the ground, jumped up to his feet and then climbed over a chain link fence.
He then ran along an irrigation canal before jumping into it, police said.
He swam across the canal and tried to hide in blackberry bushes before he gave up as a CHP helicopter hovered above, police said.
Police said his pickup, which had been painted green, crashed through a chain link gate, but noted that school was not in session and no one was injured.
Police said Holloway told officers he had earlier driven the pickup to court that day to answer for another pending stolen vehicle case against him.
Officers were also able to recover property they said was stolen in the Friday burglary.
