Had a rough weekend/day today. I think im about at the point where I dont wanna study construction mgmt anymore =\. I thought about maybe going into the IT industry, took a look at those job outlooks (newsweek etc) and i was looking at somewhere along the lines of data base admin / computer systems analyst, somewhere around there. For anyone that is in the industry or knows about these lines of work would you care to shed some light for me?

im not totally in the dark about computers, i know enough to get by, but i wouldnt tell people that i can help them fix their laptops etc. i took a few computer based classes in high school (building, web design, programming) but all were intro/novice level classes and they were fine with me.

It can be good money and a great career but you need to like the field to be good at it. Lots of things to learn and do to stay on top. Lots of opportunities all the time but the field is ever changing and the big bucks are in managing/business it opposed to creating it. I stick to design/dev it since I love it and the pay is not bad as well ;)

You can do admin work or design/coding. Both have a big demand and both are heavily outsourced though. I would say coding is more outsourced than admin due to security reasons but nothing goes in absolutes.

I'd love to get into some database stuff...but I'm sticking with websites for now...lol

Software Test Quality Assurance Analyst here. Is that a mouthfull or what. I too got tired of what I was doing and came into the IT field. Get started now. Stay in school but work towards your IT certs. You will need certifications if you want to do anything but answer phones. An A+ will get you a job at Best Buy as a Geek Squad member now. You'll need a minimum of a Security + or Network + to get a job with the government. Most people start off in a call center or help desk. Be prepared to relocate too if you want it bad enough. D.C., Charlotte and Raleigh, Austin, Dallas, Boise, NorCal, and Seattle are most of your BIG IT hubs. This is where you're big name companies are.

Sorry my response above seems spotty and quick. I'm watching a bunch of machines not do what I need them to be doing and my attention is split.

;)

thanks for the responses everyone, think i might take a crack at IT. one of the classes i took in hs prepped us to take the A+ cert and it wasnt too bad although that was 4 years ago and i barely payed attention lol. but yea, i applied to illinois state university for construction mgmt and im waiting to hear back from them, but since i might change majors i was lookin at Computer Systems Technology (http://illinoisstate.edu/majors/details.php?f=computer_systems_technology.xml&p=/majors/cast/)

keep the input coming !

Yes, I'm a network geek. I support firewall devices for a living, as it currently stands. Hoping to move into training people how to use these firewall devices sooner than later...
