So my brand new SI has been already christened with immaculate bird droppings and I thank our avian friends for the gifts. With my old car I usually use hot water/microfiber towel and pick up as much as I can, but has anyone tried using bug/tar removal on it? I would imagine it would work in theory unless there is an absolute contraindication for it. Also it is getting quite cold in jersey and these guys haven't gotten around migrating anywhere yet and the droppings aren't softening up as much as I'd like.

There are several options for bird poo removers.
I find that the general hot water, towel, and any good quick detail spray works great ifyou get to it quick enough. I don't think you would need something as strong as a tar remover but if you are looking for some great all in one multi use products look into products from CarPro.

Trix is great for tar and iron deposits. It stinks like hell though.

My favorite QD products are either Poorboys Spray & Wipe or Chemical Guys Hybrid V7

Bug Squash probably works pretty good too:

And if you want the bird specific stuff:

Thanks for the input guys! Webby I had some black finish detail and used that dudes method which worked a lot better than what I usually do. Nix - while my bug/tar remover doesn't specifically state bird crap on it I will be better safe than sorry and prob just pick up that chemical guys hybrid v7 stuff, nothing but good reviews on it.

Def dont delay in wiping off bird droppings or bugs for that matter. As long as you clean often they don't set in the paints clear coat. I use a bug scrapping scrubby I picked up at pep boys, it works great! I also keep terry cloth towels in the trunk and a few diff cleaners for windows, exterior, and Interior in my little storage box in the trunk for just such occasions

Cool man. Let us know how you like it. The V7 may not break down the bird poo as well as you need if its really stuck and dried on there but it's a great all around QD product. If you hit a hard area with the bug/tar stuff using the V7 after will shine it up real nice again.

I would avoid Bug & Tar removers as they will likely strip or compromise your wax/sealant. Stick to water, or better yet, ONR and/or Detailing Sprays. One of my latest favorites is Ultima Waterless Wash Plus. I'd suggest keeping a bottle of it and a good MF towel in your car. Bird poo can etch into clear within minutes so the sooner you get it off the better....especially if they ate Indian food! :D

If staining remains I'd give it a few weeks to see if it wears off, I know they usually will if you have Opti-Coat on the paint. If after a few weeks the stain is still there it will require some amount of polishing to remove.

Ah! Rasky to the rescue. Totally pick up a bottle of Optimum No Rinse (ONR). It's the most versatile thing out there. You can wash your car with it or mix it stronger and use it as a clay lube or QD spray. It's awesome.
