A man broke into a woman’s home to check his Facebook page hours after another victim foiled his getaway plan.

About 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Gwinnett County police received the first call to respond to the 4900 block of Riverlake Drive in Norcross, police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said.

The woman told police she returned home and found a strange car running in her driveway. After she approached her house and discovered a burglar was inside, the woman took the keys out of the ignition and the driver’s wallet, Cpl. Smith said.

She then called the police.

“She parked her vehicle just down the street and saw the suspect emerge from her home carrying items from inside the house,” Cpl. Smith said. “The suspect put the stolen property into his vehicle. He fled into the neighborhood on foot after realizing his keys were gone.”

Several officers and a helicopter responded to the scene to conduct a search, but they could not find the suspect.

About 3:30 p.m., a second victim arrived home in the 5000 block of Rebel Ridge Court to discover that someone had entered her home and left puddles of water throughout, Cpl. Smith said.

“It appeared that someone used clothes from her dresser to dry off,” Cpl. Smith said.

Police believe the suspect entered one of a number of small lakes while avoiding police, and then entered the second home to hide.

The woman also noticed that her laptop computer had been moved and was left on.

“Upon checking her computer, she discovered that an unknown person had logged into Facebook,” Cpl. Smith said. “She also discovered a digital camera left in the house which did not belong to her.”

Investigators brought the camera from the first home, Cpl. Smith said. Nothing was missing from the woman’s home, the corporal said.

Detectives determined that the vehicle, wallet, and Facebook account all belonged to Mr. Trevor Jones.
They have obtained warrants charging the 34-year-old with burglary and criminal trespass, Cpl. Smith said.

Mr. Jones was on parole for burglary, and is now also wanted for his violation of that parole.
