I'm working on a project and I'm about to roll out version 1.0
I will have 150mW violet, 200mW red initially, and eventually 1000mW and 2000mW blue.
Yes! They light matches and pop balloons. The purple enclosure is only temporary I am still finalizing.

Let me know what you guys think!

Nice. Did you figure out the maximum distance?

Nice work dude! Be extremely careful though. It will blind you in less than 1/2 second. Not like those red laser pointers but like serious damage. KipKay had some pretty good blue laser tutorials over on instructables. I could never get my rectifier circuits right. Blew like $60 worth of diodes. Buh... gave up after that. Hahaha.

Most common reason diode fail is due to stress from the high current drawn through them. Possibly higher resistors or higher gauge wires will fix your problem if you want to try it again lol. I use to build these for fun using the same video @Nix mentioned from kipkay.

I will keep you guys posted! And yes I have multiple laser goggles for different wavelengths I don't want to learn the hard way lol. I advise anyone getting involved with these things to get some protection!

The key is amperage. The diver pictured above hase a trimmer potentiometer for regulation of current. The voltage is regulated by an LM317 voltage regulator. But I'm working getting something a bit more compact for my initial run of violet and red lasers. Also I want to use 9V because of availability although a C123A is also fairly common. The high power blue laser are a different story that I'm still working on lol.

As for distance I'm playing with a few lense to see the best results.
