Did my first oil change! Did I miss something?

Hey guys just a quick question. I have a 2014 civic EXL sedan and I just finished doing my oil change as it just hit 15% on the MM yesterday at 6800 miles.

I only question is:
I used monil1 0w-20 AFE
Mobil1 extended performance filter


So the oil I purchased a 5qt from Walmart as it's a good price. So I went ahead and added 4 quarts of oil. After I let the car idle for 2 minutes at level ground I checked the dipstick and out of the 5 rectangles 3 were oiled up. So I drove around 2 blocks before resetting the MM and came back and still 3 rectangles are oiled up. Should I continue to add more oil until it's all oiled up? (I know NOT to exceed the 5)

I'm here waiting to see what you guys recommend so I can reset the MM and call it a day.

Btw mobil1 0w-20 made my car noticeably quieter. Nice!!! Please let me know. Some say the filter eats about 1/2 a quart so I may need to add 1/2 more totaling 4.5 quarts
 
I believe the EXL requires about 4.2 quarts or somewhere in that ball park of oil. Try adding a little over that, also make sure to double check under the car and make sure you're not leaking any oil from the drain bolt and make sure the filter is tight.

Yup tightened 9lb for the filter and 29lb for the drain bolt. So I added a very little amount totaling 4.1quart and 5 minutes later 4 rectangles are oiled up on the dipstick. I'm thinking maybe .1 more should make it fill up to the upper mark
 
That should be fine possible .2 more quarts wouldn't create an issue either, just try and hold that thing steady and not over poor! lol
 
"Wait approximately three minutes after turning the engine off before you check the oil." - not sure if you're checking it immediately after shutting down? Oil will drain back into the pan after waiting a few minutes as well

Thanks. Ok so now it's been about 10 minutes that the car has been shut off. I checked and one side it's 4 triangle the other side it's 4.5 almost all oiled up. I put the dipstick back in and spinner the dipstick gently and when I took it would it appears that it is 4.5 full. Is this good now or add a little more?

As long as your oil light is not on you should be good, check the dip stick again tomorrow morning or in a few days just to make sure everything is okay.
 
That is fine - I'd leave it as is. Check it in a few days after driving and see if it stays towards the top line.
 
My book says to wait 5 min after shutting off the engine........... IMHO leaving it a few hairs below the top line is better than going over the top line.

Yeah that makes sense. Don't want to risk any engine damage. I went ahead and reset the oil change from the iMid screen. It's all good!

What is strange is, on my wife's 2013 civic sedan that had her oil change 1 week ago, when I went to her maintenance screen in the iMid is said oil 100% under it, it says B1 (Oil and filter and tire rotation)

When I went to look at mine, it just said oil 100%, Tire rotation. I'm wondering if honda just drains the oil and puts new in and in the second oil change she gets a new filter.

This was my first oil change and I changed the oil and filter.
 
I'm pretty sure when "Honda service" does an oil change they "will" also change the filter due to the fact they "should" be changed at every oil change........ Because we use to say change the oil every 250-300 miles and filter every other time, where as, now days the oil is not being changed until 5000+ miles(due to the improvement in engine oils in general)..... but todays filters even though some are better than they use to be, are still falling into the category of 5000 to 8000 mpc.......
 
I'm not in front of a manual, but it is probably the cabin air filter. I believe it's around 15k miles on the new one? Your manual will say.
 
So some update for you guys. Turn out the car fills up with 4.2 quarts. Once I added the .1 more to total .2 it filled up. I them went to train and 2 hours later checked the dip stick and it was good. I came home and waited 5 minutes and checked and same result. Car feels great
