Toyota, Subaru and Scion all tell us that their co-developed trio of rear-wheel drive sports coupes, namely the 86/GT86, BRZ and FR-S, are powered by the same 2.0-liter flat-four that produces 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft (205Nm) at the flywheel.

As is common these days with any newly launched model, independent testers, in this case, the folks over at Edmund's Insideline, strapped the North American market 2013 Scion FR-S on the dyno to see what kind of numbers it would produce.

The result: was a maximum output of 173-horsepower at 7,000 rpm and a peak torque of 143 lb-ft (194Nm) at about 2,800 rpm, with Edmund's noting that from 4,500 and 6,500 rpm, the Subaru-sourced engine produces a flat 140 lb-ft (190Nm).

I thought it would have a higher power loss since it's a RWD.

Yeah saw that a few days ago....

173.. blah..

~13.5lbs of weight per hp at crank - fr-s
~13.8lbs of weight per hp at crank - your wrx

Just saying they're close in that regard. I know mods can change things drastically

Yawn...They should have went with the 2.5 noticeable difference in torque between the 2 but looks like Subaru is reverting back to the 2.0 for NA apps.

CAFE mpg regulations are making automakers downsize engines, or come up with mpg savings somewhere.

The new CAFE standards for vehicle fleets will be 54.5 mpg by 2025. Meaning every car/truck/suv from a manufacturer must average out to 54.5mpg. Last year, the average was 24.1mpg. So imagine everyone trying to double their figures by 2025.
