Evo 8 Accident with black ice - Almost Totaling the Car

That is a very scary situation. That driver seemed to be driving pretty fast on a very heavy snowfall where you can't see anything from 15-20 yards away. At least his car survived that.

Everyone, what is the weather like where you live? First snow of the year where I live in Southern Ohio. We had a dusting then flurries. Around 1pm the flurries came back and then between 1:30p to 2:30p we had a white out and got an inch or more of snow within that hour. Vid is when the flurries started at my house and the Pic is just after the storm went through at my grandparents. I couldn't even see the school across the street during the blizzard.

It hasn't snowed in Jersey yet, but the temperatures have gone down this week. It was 10-15 degrees a couple of days ago. As for the winter tires, I heard that Bridgestone Blizzaks are very good sets and have pretty good rating.

You guys didn't get any of the snow on Halloween? We got over a foot, and lost power for several days. You must be in south Jersey.

Wow, it would suck to get snow on Halloween. We've had snow in November usually around Thanksgiving but none that early as far as I can remember. I'm surprised we made it all the way to January b/c we almost always have snow in December. I bet February is going to be a nightmare for us.

Well it did snow during Halloween, but that technically wasn't Winter. Lol. I live in North Jersey and my area also did lose power for 5 days. I'm still waiting for a legit winter snow storm.

Recommendations for good all weather tires? We usually do not get much snow but the weather has been acting crazy. 2012!!!!

good thread about winter tires

honestly, anything rated as a winter tire will be an improvement
prices from tirerack on oem sizes for 8th
michelin x-ice - like $98/tire
Dunlop Graspic DS-3 -- like 81/tire
Continental Extreme Winter Contact - like 81/tire
Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 - like 91/tire

not sure what walmart can get, but it says free ship to store currently on tires

I forgot to mention a few things about the vid. The guy who posted the video stated: "I don't understand why people are stopped in this kind of condition. They are asking to get rear ended". Those cars that are supposedly stopped are actually driving very slowly because they are smart enough to not drive as fast as the Evo, Flex, and the semi driver. Or maybe there was a similar accident up ahead that caused a very slow traffic. I guess the Evo driver assumes that the snow would not cause anything but an ordinary regular daily drive. Since there is pretty much nothing to see from 10 yards away, the common sense would be to drive at least half the speed limit (25-35ish MPH). Also, he said that he braked on "black ice". Black ice, slush, sleet, hail or regular snow would cause any driver to lose traction at that speed. He should not make excuses saying that it was the "black ice" or the non-winter tires that made him lose control. I see that he's trying to prove something with the vid, but all I saw were careless and unsafe driving.
