I just finished a book called What Comes Next by John Katzenbach and it was excellent. I have read three other books by Mr. Katzenbach and they were all page turners.

1984 by George Orwell.

Louis L'Amour writes really good Westerns. Hes a good storyteller and the books are quick to read. "Last of the Breed" is my favorite adventure story

Well, I could talk about Dan Brown, but instead I'll talk about another Browne that you are probably unaware of: Anthony Browne. This guy is an absolutely amazing children's author. He writes and does his own illustrations and does them in a way that I think adults get more out of them than kids. What is amazing about his books is how much use of symbolism and metaphor he uses. He also tackles heavy themes in a thought provoking way. These books are definitely not passive reads, more like puzzles that each time you read you will get more and more out of them. Definitely not your average kids books! My kids love them, but I appreciate them more.

Here's a little sampling of some his books.

Check out some of his images to see what I mean.

Other authors I really enjoy are:

Daniel Silva
Nelson DeMille
Alex Berenson
Brad Thor
Vince Flynn (RIP)
Dennis Lehayne
Martin Cruz Smith
John Connolly
Katia Leif
Tom Clancy
David Stone
Joel C. Rosenberg
Michael Connelly
Alan Jacobson

Daniel Silva is the best writer of spy novels I've ever read.

My wife really enjoyed this series of books.
I read the whole series as well, and was lucky enough to have lived in a city that kept inviting her(JA) to book signings, so I have all of her books(hardcover) and the 1st 5 of them signed.
Not to mention the 4 Hobbit books, never really thought I'd read that many series books, but those were "Can't put down" books.

I love reading anything from Asimov, Bradbury or Arthur C Clarke but lots of other great authors as well. A bit old school but found Somerset Maugham to be a very good writer, not a fan of the stories but addicted to the style.
Another great one for me is Umberto Eco.

I just finished reading Hombre by Elmore Leonard. Great story and very much like the movie starring Paul Newman.
