NIAGARA FALLS - Sex shop owner Skip Eskildsen says the Ontario government is overreacting by yanking his long-time personalized licence plate 'WTF YLA.'
“They’re opening up a can of worms. You can’t legislate thought,” said Eskildsen, who was recently ordered to surrender the vanity plate he first purchased from the Ministry of Transportation in 1999.
In October, the licensing services branch launched a “review” of his 11-year-old plate after receiving a complaint. They demanded the Niagara Falls businessman explain why he picked the letters.
People may recognize 'WTF' as short for something you might blurt out when you don’t understand something. 'YLA' could be short for: “You looking at.”
Eskildsen said he bought the plate as a gift for his wife Lillian — the namesake of their Lily ‘n’ Lace shop that sells lingerie and sex toys — to put on her 1999 Cadillac.
He says it stands for “What the Fine Young Lady Acquired” — a reference to the Caddy.
