Hill Holder on 2014 Si

Anyone have an opinion on the "hill holder" function on the 2014 Si? I find this feature a bit annoying. I'd love to know if it can be turned off, but there does not appear to be a button for it like for the VSA.
 
hill holder? as in you wont start rolling when you disengage the E brake? That would be ideal for learning stick, but I agree, I'd find that annoying.
 
How does is even work? My car always rolls back when I'm stopped on the red light.
 
It prevents the car from rolling back when on an incline when you take your foot off the brake. Lasts a couple seconds before it releases. I agree that it would be handy for learners, but not all the time.

I think it's called "Hill Start Assist"
This makes sense. I couldn't find any information on what it's called - I think Subaru calls it "hill holder."

I can see how it might be helpful for some, and for learners, but I'm not a fan. I have a very slight incline coming out of my neighborhood, and the feature always engages there. I'm would hope there is a way to turn it off, but have yet to find one. Maybe I'll ask the dealer.
 
I believe it'll only engage when you have the car in gear. If you're on a hill in neutral and let off the brake/depress the clutch/put it in 1st to go.... I believe it won't activate.

As we have many hills around here, I'll have to give that a try. However, I don't exactly know how often I'd be sitting on a hill in neutral...

I may be able to test this theory on my way home from work today.

I don't mind the assist feature, it certainly helps when backing up on an incline, then again the old e brake trick works just as well.

Jury is in...

It engages both in gear and in neutral. However, if you are sitting facing forward on an incline and put it in reverse, it does not engage (I fully expected this result, but tried it anyway to confirm).

I got the same results. The car will only free roll if you were intending to go in the direction the vehicle would naturally roll anyway regardless of being in gear or not.
