Honda Sets New Month Production Record
It was to be expected that Honda's production numbers throughout 2012 would be significantly improved over last year, which was marked by the catastrophic Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, but the company did better than that recording a new all-time monthly record for vehicle production outside Japan in May with 357,619 units, up by 176 percent.
In Japan, Honda's automotive output grew by 113.1 percent in May over the same month last year to 74,043 units. Overall, Honda's worldwide production reached 357,619 units, up 160.1 percent. Honda has seen its output grow for the fourth consecutive month in Japan and the fifth consecutive month worldwide.
From the beginning of the year (January through the end of May), Honda has produced 495,196 vehicles in Japan (+121.9%) and 1,297,856 units outside its home market (+42.4%) for a total of 1,793,052 (+58.1%). Honda also reported an increase in automobile sales in the Japanese market of 100.4 percent for the month of May 2012, and 76.7 percent from the beginning of the year.
