Lamborghini ditching manual transmissions in the immediate future

Lamborghini is apparently chomping at the bit to say arrivederci to the manual transmission. Motor Trendhad a chance to speak with Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini's R&D director, and it appears that a manual gearbox doesn't fit into the automaker's plans for the future. The immediate future.

Per Reggiani, only one to two percent of the vehicles produced at the Sant'Agata factory come equipped with a row-your-own setup – a shockingly low percentage. Lamborghini's customers want fast cars, and the best way to ensure it delivers is by removing the human element from the gearchange equation.

A Gallardo replacement is expected next year, and Reggiani tells Motor Trend that it will be available only with an automated gearbox of some sort (the new Aventador makes use of an automated single-clutch seven-speed unit).

Has the manual transmission run its course, or is there still life left for those who hunt for the perfect heel-toe downshift? If the rumormill is correct, Porsche seems to think there is, but other automakers have been mum on development plans for three-pedal setups.

I don't care about lambos and what gearbox they will have. Lol not like i'll ever own one. Now the c7 on the other hand... Thats made to be manual!

I'd rather have a car that's more fun to drive than one that's a fraction of a second quicker.

true,... guess I really shouldn't care all that much because of not owning one... but I hope others don't follow that trend. The GT-R is only auto. Heck, you can't get certain trim civics in manual this year either. If the trend continues, there will be no manual to choose

Yeah I hear ya. I'm sure it will be like all these prius driving A-Holes who look down there noses at anything but hybrids.

If you look already ford and chevy both don't offer a single truck with manual trans. which would be actually nice to have. Dodge only offers the cummins in manual and that is it. I dont know if they even do that anymore either.

Thankfully they make the GT3RS with a real transmission. Time to keep dreaming :D

yea, you have to go down to the smaller trucks to get manuals. Toyota, Nissan, Chevy, Ford, etc are all that way now....

All those small trucks are crap! they always have been. Believe me i'm never going to have another one of those if i can help it.

The end is near!!

Imagine; 50 years from now if we're all still alive (hopefully), having out grandchildren watching us driving a stick in our restored S2000s, M3s, STIs, Mustangs, Vettes, etc and gasping in awe. As cars of the future will probably be automated or driven by a joystick similar to the power wheelchairs I work with every day.
