to make up for the reduced compression travel when using the stock dampers at a lower ride height, lowering springs need to be fairly stiff to prevent bottoming out. The extra stiffness means the spring and damping rates are no longer matched, and while some springs may ride okay on relatively smooth roads, they will feel harsh on pockmarked pavement. Even progressive designs that have an low initial spring rate to smooth out small bumps are gonna be pretty jarring on large bumps. if you want a smooth ride, you need to consider springs AND dampers or a proper coilover system.Smoothest ride? Stock.
