Hey guys, I am new to this stuff so I just want some opinions on my car. I bought a brand new Si to learn stick in because I have always wanted an Si so I wanted to do it right. I bought it brand new off the lot but I am concerned because I learned to drive stick in it & I have stalled it a bunch. Everything seems to be ok with my car (running fine, sounds good etc...) Can anybody tell me if I should be concerned of anything in the future?? I am still new to driving but learning fast & rapidly. I have been told don't worry because Civic's, especially Si's can handle it for awhile. Also I have dropped it into 2nd going like 40 mph a couple of times but as stated before everything is running properly. Opinions??
Thanks Guys!!
~Kyle

First of all, Welcome! :wavey:

How often were you able to smell your clutch? Do you know what RPM the engine revved to when you dumped it into 2nd at 40 mph?

I'm guessing that you should be alright, but I would not share any of this information with you dealer/mechanic when you bring it in for service.

I learned on my '03 LX and it made it 9.5 years without any problems before I sold it. And trust me there were plenty of stalls, bump and grinds, and miscalculated shifts. Even with all of that at 125,000 miles, it was actually still somewhat smoother than my '12 Si is (outside of a slightly worn and notchy 2nd gear). Not sure how different the transmission is in the '12 Si, but I wouldn't be too worried.

Yeah, you'll be fine.
I did the exact same thing on my first manual car. You'll eventually learn how the car handles, when to shift to avoid high RPMs, and how to transition between the clutch and pedal.
Just take your time.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the helpful insight on my car. I am stoked to learn more about my Si, which is why I joined the forums! Thanks for being so nice and welcoming towards me! I am excited to continue talking about my car with people who actually understand. (My girlfriend is getting annoyed :p) Thanks again!!!

You should be fine as others have said. welcome to the site

Congrats for the choice! Do not worry, as long as you do not grind the gears you're good, car has a cutoff to prevent engine damage and I bet you do not always redline it.

Cutoff doesn't prevent going over the redline on a downshift though...

I will say the cutoff is more pronounced in the '12 Si than it was in my '03 LX. I didn't even notice I was nearing redline in 2nd (music too loud and not accustomed to vibration feel with the new car yet) and it freaked me out for a second. Although, the difference in feel could simply be due to power differences.

Thanks Dragos && squiggy! I've only redlined once but it wasn't for long. && I am starting to get the feel for my car. Everyday I get better. By day 4 of having my car I could drive it on the road && I have been told by many that I am a quick learner and not to worry too much because it is a good reliable car. Thanks for all the feedback guys! 9thcivic is sick <3

No problem. I will tell you that you probably have it easier by learning your first time than some of us do who have previously had a manual for many years and tens of thousands of miles. After a while it becomes an automated mindless activity (for the most part). Let me tell you, new cars do not like the intricacies of the old one. Hell, I still have a hard time remembering I even have a sixth gear now (even though I complained all the time that my LX needed one). Brain tells me I do not have another gear to shift in to.

Haha, I believe that bro! Everybody always tells me the same thing && I am starting to see that. Sometimes I drive my mom's Pilot (which is automatic) && I find myself pushing in the brake as if it were my clutch when I start it. && when i drive the Pilot I get so bored with my other hand because I still feel the need to shift!! Gah, I'm in love with my Si. && only being 18 and owning one without my parents chipping in makes many jealous :) haters gonna hate. But hey, that's the luxury of working 2 jobs :)

My feet and hands always get mixed up when I first get in my wife's Insight. Mostly goes away until I come to a stop or go to turn a corner. She just shakes her head when she sees my hands move into position for a shift. I usually notice her response before I even know I am doing it.

A piece of financial advice...if you are working two jobs, pay that car off as fast as possible!

Haha! Yea I do the same!! :) && I have heard that from many people. Chances are, I am going to pay it off ASAP. Thanks for helpful insight. :)

Congrats! My Si was my 1st manual, I practiced in an Audi A3 two times which were horrible. I stalled a few times in my Si the first few days n was deathly afraid of hills as I stalled on a hill on the highway in heavy traffic n car started to roll. But that was months ago. I love it, it's effortless like everyone says after u get used to it. I hate when I drive automatics cuz my brain never knows what to do, my left foot searches aimlessly for a clutch and my right hand is always trying to shift...it's hilarious. But good luck!!

You have a great attitude bro, I can tell, and you're in great hands here on the forum, glad you like your car and nice to hear that you have the value of a hard earned dollar with 2 jobs, good for you!
Continue to be responsible at it will pay off for years to come, congrats on Si purchase and Welcome!!

Thanks Frediii. Yes at first it was stressful but now i am definitely getting the hang of all this manual nonsense :) I am so happy that it all came quick and easy for me because I know many who have struggled && still do. Many people asked me why i got the Si if I can't drive it && I just said wait till I can drive it :) Now everyone is mad jealous and wants a ride. Funny how that all works out huh? && Thank You skyfox, you sound like a real bro && for that i am thankful. Thank you all for being oh so supportive when others have not been :) you guys rock! Stay true <3

Here you guys go :p
