...after three weeks of deciding on how to tackle my sound system upgrade, i finally got it all done. i left the OEM headunit since i didn't want to lose all the fancy function that goes with it. i changed the front and rear speakers, and also added a 10" sub. the clean the sound coming out of the headunit, i went with AudioControl's latest processor, the DQ-61. all i can say is, the sound experience is a 100% way better before i change it! it's so amazing how it turned my interior into a virtual concert hall. the imaging is so amazing in that it's hard to pinpoint where the music is specifically coming from, and with the addition of the bass, it just makes it feels like you're inside the music. i will be tweaking it some more, as i feel it can do much better, lol. if not, well, at least i took some pics so should i screw up, i can set it back to how it is.
the way the installer set it up was pretty slick, IMHO. he made a false wall in the back of the trunk, so in order to access the amps and processor, i have to pull down the back seat, which make sense, since should i decide to mess with the EQ, i don't have to go in and out of the car. the trunk has the minimalist look; all you could see is the sub. you could still see the wire, since he left that up to me on where i want to place the sub permanently (i just got this back saturday, so i still haven't really messed with it yet). the remote control that came with the processor was placed on the knockout panel.
for the breakdown, here's what i got:
RF 165-s comp speakers (front)
RF 165 speakers (rear)
MRV-F300 4 channel amp
RF P3 1x10 sub
MRV-M500 mono amp

my question is how did you guys set your amp (Gain, Bass Boost, etc?)009.jpg 011.jpg 015.jpg

thanks bowler! btw, just to pass it on, i used industrial velcro to attach the sub to the false wall... i've slammed on my brake (in a vacant parking lot, of course) just to see how it'll hold. well, it did not move an inch. used the remaining velcro to keep the wire immobilized...006.jpg

Nice job man!!! I'm just thinking how rediculas my system is with 4 of those mrv-m 500 amps !!! Real impressive clean job, props to the installer

That's really good to know. I'm eventually going to upgrade the stock "system" to something like this. I'm debating whether or not to swap out the head unit or do like you did with an eq. How are those Rockford speakers? Also, how was the mounting depth for the front tweeters? Any crazy modifications necessary?

rockfords are great! before the upgrade, my volume is normally set at around 18 or 19. now, with the SVC set at mid, volume is set at 9 or 10. past that, and it gets kinda painful, lol. you can distinctly hear the mids and highs. used some seventies disco songs to tune this part since twitters were king back in those days, lol. the bass coming from the Punch sub were very deep and distinct (i used rap music for this). over all, it sound excellent! i have to give credit to the processor as well; the EQ is very sensitive on this one. as far as the Bass/Treble setting on the OEM: i started with both at flat. two clicks to the right for the bass, and one click to the right for the treble.
regarding the twitter: i called the installer and he told me the twitter that came with the rockford component is almost the same size as the OEM twitter, he said that he didn't have any problem installing them, no crazy mods...
good luck on yours, bowler!

thanks, @bobshur !!! yeah, installer did a great job! those alpines rocks!!!
