Forget all the rumors. The upcoming Star Wars film won’t be based on any existing plot — it’s entirely original.

At least that’s according to a report by E! Online. A LucasFilm source tells the entertainment website that, “It’s an original story.”

Online fans originally speculated that Episode 7 would bring Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy — a series of books considered part of Star Wars canon — to the silver screen.

“Of all the speculation out there about the content of this new trilogy, that’s the single most concrete idea,” Eric Geller, of fan site TheForce.net, told E!. “It’s almost inevitable that the story will take place in the same time frame as those books.”

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that one possibility being considered is “an Avengers-style movie universe” featured in three more Star Wars films, as well as spinoff movies following individual characters.
So far, no directors have been attached to the project, sources also revealed.

Disney announced Tuesday that it was acquiring Lucasfilm LTD, including the Star Wars franchise, for more than $4 billion. The Burbank, Calif.-based company said it plans to release Episode 7 in 2015, and that moreStar Wars films will be added to the franchise.

Are you excited or disappointed that Episode 7 will be an original story? Would you prefer that the film be based on an existing plot?

In the end, does it really matter? As long as it's entertaining and well executed, I don't care.

BTW, the most amazing thing is that photo is over 35 years old.

As long as they do not negate the Expanded Universe, I am fine with that. Otherwise, they will infuriate those who have been central to keeping the interest in Star Wars alive all these years. After all, there have been been over 100 Expanded Universe books published and hundreds of comics that have been considered canon. This even includes the video games. Disney would do best to respect that.

So will it be similar to the Star Trek movie from a few years ago where the world was in a different dimension? (The Star Trek movie was great, btw. I loved it.)

I thought they are working on a second film?

Entertainment Weekly Claims Disney Plans To Release Two To Three Star Wars Films Every Year

We were excited (if not a little nervous) that Star Wars Episode VII would be out come 2015, but now that's the least that's happening. Turns out Disney plans on making a lot more Star Wars pictures. A LOT MORE.

So the Disney buyout happened and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that we would be getting a new episode in the Star Wars saga every two years or so. That makes sense. After all, it takes time to put together an epic or, at least, it should. But hang onto your hats, kids, because that's just the main stuff. Apparently, according to the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, Kennedy and Disney plan to put out two to three Star Wars-related movies EVERY YEAR!

Now, that doesn't mean we'll see Episodes VII, VII and IX all in 2015. In fact, we'd stake our reputations that we most certainly won't. It will, however, likely mean we will see Lucasfilm take a page from Marvel. After all, look at all the individual films that led up to the insanely successful Avengers. So what we're probably looking at is a series of films telling the stories of specific characters, all in an effort to enrich the existing universe.

Well, that and to make more money, of course. After all, more movies means more movie tickets and, most of all, more toys.

Did you guys see the South Park episode about the 2012 Elections and Disney? Lol.

It's Official: George Lucas Hands Star Wars to J.J. Abrams

JJ-Abrams.jpg

After an agonizing wait of more than a day to confirm the widespread rumor, Disney and its newest subsidiary Lucasfilm have made it official: J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars Episode VII.

The news was announced late Friday night on StarWars.com. None other than George Lucas was quoted, effectively handing the baton of directing Star Wars to Abrams personally with these words:
"I've consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller. He's an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn't be in better hands."
Kathleen Kennedy, the new head of Lucasfilm, offered her own praise for Abrams, the director of two Star Trek movies: "He has an intuitive understanding of this franchise. He understands the essence of the Star Wars experience, and will bring that talent to create an unforgettable motion picture."

"I may be even more grateful to George Lucas now than I was as a kid," Abrams gushed. He was little more than a decade old when Star Wars Episode IV was released in 1977.

To placate those nervous about this new direction, Lucasfilm assured us that Lawrence Kasdan — the heavyweight writer of fan favorite The Empire Strikes Back — would be consulting on the project. It also lined up a number of Star Wars veterans to vouch for Abrams at the end of the blog post.

In short, Kennedy couldn't have been more aggressive out of the gate in signaling that something great is in the works, and that some major talent is going to be giving it their best shot. The title of the post said it all: "Star Wars is Being Kickstarted With Dynamite."
