Nutty as ever…nothing cheaper so far. Tariffs on Canada and Mexico are supposed to start Feb 1st. Also trying to change constitutional rights. Cause you know….the party that is all about the constitution wants to change to constitution. Makes a whole lot of sense. Pardoned all the Jan 6th peeps….again, the party that is for the police let all the people that assaulted police go free of charge. He even previously said that those people that assaulted the police would be charged with a crime but he just let them all go.

I’m surprised he hasn’t gone golfing yet at his club. Maybe that will be on Friday…..

But on the eggs prices…they have been all over the place, the last year or so. I wonder what’s up with that.

dont forget CDC and FDA arent allowed to release data or alerts right now, as avian flu is a growing concern

National Institutes of Health are on a pause for pretty much everything, travel, grant reviews, basically anything beyond showing up to the office. So university research, training the next generation of engineers, researchers, physicians is suddenly uncertain

I have a friend that will fight till the end of time that Trump can do no wrong. He's very stubborn.

It's nice to see actual American opinions on here.

I feel like the proposed income tax hike (or cut at the top) won’t go over well with many.

I think this is what frustrates "most" people(at least for me it does) that didn't vote for Trump. How can anyone say that he does no wrong at all? It just doesn't make sense.

My father-in-law and brother-in-law....they will vote for a Republican no matter what, but they have said that they don't think Trump should have represented them. But I guess they don't care as long as a Republican wins.

Wasn’t it just to keep the existing tax brackets in place, just make permanent?
I believe what Trump put in place in 2017 is set to expire for 2025 taxes. I believe his changes or what is actually being reported in print(as in, not what he says on tv) will actually hurt most people. Its a bit messy since he says he is helping folks but that is not what all the tax people are saying.

Similar to the tariffs he loves to talk about.

I'm not 100% I follow what you're saying or asking? Here are the 2024 brackets, and then the bracket changes proposed below.

0-28,600 = +790 tax increase
28,600-55,100 = 1,420 increase
55,100-94,100 = 1,530 increase
94,100-157,500 = 1,790 increase
157,500-360,000 = 610 increase
360,000-914,900 = 7,160 savings
914,900 + = 36,320 savings

Dang....I thought $2.50 was expensive at our store.....
I'd look again, because prices of eggs have gone way up due to the bird flu in the last few months.

=============

Egg Prices Are Rising Again. Here’s Why They’re So High

The average cost of a dozen Grade A large eggs was $4.15 in December, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

For more than two years, farmers have fought a battle with a fatal strain of bird flu that continues to disrupt the U.S. egg supply. Recent outbreaks of the virus across multiple states claimed roughly 8% of the U.S. flock of egg-laying hens in just four months. With limited supplies, shoppers have seen skyrocketing prices at some grocery stores, and many have encountered buying restrictions or empty shelves.

Egg prices rose nearly 37% in one year

The average cost of a dozen Grade A large eggs was $4.15 in December, up from $3.65 in November, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, retrieved from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis’ FRED site.

Major U.S. egg producers continue to report new bird flu cases affecting flocks around the country.
Since October, when the latest spate of outbreaks began, reports of bird flu spanning eight states, including Arizona, California, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Utah and Washington, have affected more than 25 million egg-laying hens. There are roughly 312 million egg-laying hens in the U.S. population, according to the USDA. That means nearly 8% of all U.S. egg layers were lost in the past four months.

We have a store that only charges $2.99 for eggs. They charged that even when eggs were cheaper. Found that loophole. We’ve been at $8/dozen for a while at Safeway or Kroger.

There were the 2017 tax bracket changes that are supposed to be expiring in 2025, which would cause a tax increase. Trump was trying to Congress to get those cuts to be permanent.

The only part of that tax plan that might change was the SALT (state and local tax deduction) limit at $10k. I think they were looking at making it $20k for filing jointly or head of household.

There were potential tariffs but those wouldn’t show up on individual brackets.

Canadian Friend who is Pro-Trump?
There are lots of them. more anti trump though.

thats a weird way to vote, but it happens here as well. although i dont think we have ever had super bad choices.

congrats on renaming the gulf of mexico though. thats a win right?

I had to dig, but it looks like the image came from this article

https://itep.org/trumps-tax-plan-like-robin-hood-in-reverse/
I found that article. That’s a purely hypothetical study with some bad assumptions that allow them to come to that conclusion(e.g. reducing corporate taxes are equivalent to a tax cut on individual taxes on the wealthy (corporate and individual taxes are two separate tax systems).

They acknowledge that tariffs might effectively increase taxes. They’re baking that effect into the income tax paid. But if that goes into place, it wouldn’t increase income taxes, but increase prices and the associated sales taxes (county and state taxes).

The only thing we’re looking at right now is a lateral change for extending existing tax policy. Maybe an elimination of tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security disbursements, which would lower taxes on the bottom 50% the most.
