ATLANTA —
New information obtained in a Channel 2 Action News investigation shows that the owners of 700 dogs have blamed the deaths of their pets on Trifexis, the nation’s leading flea and heartworm pill.
Channel 2 consumer investigator Jim Strickland confirmed the data with the Food and Drug Administration after drug maker Elanco refused repeated requests to release it.
An FDA report, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, also reveals 30,000 complaints of vomiting, 8,000 complaints of lethargy and more than 1,300 seizure reports.
The FDA cautions the data reflects the accounts of dog owners, and that there is no proof Trifexis is the actual cause of the deaths or illnesses.
Today on Channel 2 Action News at 5, Strickland talks to the Georgia dog owner who made the first claim of a Trifexis-related dog death and digs into the newly obtained documents.
