VINELAND — A cunning prank left a city woman scratching her head and several delivery men aggravated Saturday afternoon.

An officer was dispatched just after 1:30 p.m. to the 700 block of Yale Terrace for a report of harassment.

When he arrived a 38-year-old woman recounted the strange tale of culinary deception.

She had been traveling home when a delivery man for a Chinese restaurant called her, complaining he had delivered food to her house and she had not been there to accept it.

Confused, the woman informed the man she was not home and that she had not ordered any Chinese food.

When she arrived at her house a relative told her that no less than seven deliveries had come for her, with her cellular phone number attached to each order.

The relative had told each of the delivery drivers that the woman was not home and that their food was not wanted.

While the woman was explaining this to the officer, three more delivery drivers from Michael’s Pizza, Tony Soprano’s Pizza, and Pizza Joe’s arrived, for a total of at least 10 deliveries.

The officer informed them in turn that the deliveries were fraudulent and sent them back to their respective pizzerias.

He next called Michael’s Pizza and spoke to the manager. He said that a man had called on a blocked number and placed the order, then given the woman’s cellular phone number as a contact.

The other restaurants were contacted and confirmed that they had been had in a similar manner.

The woman said she did not have any idea who would be playing a joke on her nor did she know who would have her number to give out.

She said that she would call the police department if she found out anything else.
