Rev hang update gone

When I went in tommy dealer on 12/12 they could not find update x0a050, they called the dealer in mass that had done the update a while ago and that dealer agreed the update was no longer out there to use. Honda has not returned my call. This rev hang up could be a real problem for an inexperienced driver in slick snow or ice conditions. What could honda be thinking these 2012's have been on the road for over a year now.

There is, and never was, a rev hang update. Rev hang, which Honda America refers to as rev match, is a feature purposely designed into the car. I would not hold my breath for a fix, because it is not "a problem." It is an exciting new feature. Just ask them.

open your drivers door and there should be a build date on a sticker.

On the top right hand side - see the "02/ '07" - that means it was manufactured in Feb of 2007. Depending on your build date, you may have the latest software

:yeahthat:

This is the thing that drives me nuts about people complaining about it being a production/design/engineering problem when they fail to take into account that manufacturers have to follow every increasingly demanding emission regulations--which is why we have the rev hang/match. Honda is not catering to those of us trying to squeeze every last bit of performance out of our cars. Honda has sold over 250,000 9th gen units to date. There is not even 2,500 members on this forum. We represent less than 1% of what was sold. That is not even trying to consider what fraction of those sold were manuals. We are not a concern to Honda--AT ALL.

Fortunately, the aftermarket is there for us and we have Flashpro. :rockwoot:

I dropped my car off this am for oil consumption concern and I asked about the update to lessen the rev hang. It went something like this:

The service writer said something like, "I have an Si myself and the trick you just have to get used to letting off the gas a split second earlier and it's not so bad."

I said that yeah, that's what I do, but then all it does is hang at 3500 rpm instead of 4500, which is just as disruptive and annoying.

The service manager stuck his nose in over the service writer's shoulder and repeated what I'm sure is the mantra Honda wants them to say; "it's there on purpose to help you accelerate into the next gear during high performance driving"

I still shake my head when I picture him saying that. I have a feeling I'll be coming away from this disappointed. Can't wait to hear what they think about my oil consumption though. They have a "specialist" with tools and equipment coming in tomorrow to look at it and scope the cylinder walls.

When you go back, you should ask him if NASCAR race cars have this performance feature.

The post about Honda's numbers compared to forum's count is I think the crux of the problem. But it would seem such an inexpensive fix in light of Road and Track article saying that Honda is going to develop more performance cars, aimed at us I assume. Webby, the manufacturer date is 9/12 which seems quite recent, but the issue still takes the fun out of driving if one cares about it, again us.

ummmmm.... is rev hang in all 2012 civics????? i have an EX/w 5spd here in canada, and i have yet to see any rev hang..... i always assumed it was only the SI's....... or just maybe i am too slow with the gears...???

That's a good question. Every time I've heard of rev hang it was just with the Si. Considering its a built in feature for Honda I wonder if the other models have it.

hehehe well im thinking back now.. i can rev her up then take my foot off the pedal and it instantly revs down, so i definitely dont suffer from rev hang... mines built in 01/12, picked her up february... so another question Bulkybear, California used to have the strictest emissions standards, and B.C. has always followed suit, but does the rest of the US follow the same standards now?

The emissions question someone else can answer, I have no clue about that stuff. Is yours a manual? I would think it would just be the manuals with rev hang because they can use the transmission mapping for similar effect in an auto.

hehehe yep got a 4 door EX with a manual.... its retarded how you cant get what i have in the US.... altho i have only seen autos on the lot, i actually ordered my baby, took almost 2 months befor the dealer got her in... but worth it, you guys in the US can get the SI alot cheaper than we can in Canada.... from my understanding they are only about 3k more than an EX in the US, but are about 6K more here.... same with accords here another 5K more than you guys pay..... but my EX was only about 500 more than your price....

That's because if my understanding is correct your Si = our lx and our Si = your type r.

Canada has four 1.8 trims (LX being one of them) and one 2.4 Si trim, that being the 24k msrp in US 26k in Ca. All come in Coupe and Sedan. I wish we had a type R :)

http://honda.ca/civic

heard quite a few people say they got theirs for 22k, or is that not including freight? lol i dunno..... but seriously i have checked accord prices from honda.ca compared to honda.com and the accords are about 5k more.. we have a hidden luxury tax here if a car is over 30k, theres another 3k tacked on..... plus 12% hst .... also i heard they dont sell civic in japan anymore, so im very skeptical about a typeR ever coming out....

Good to know definitely. Pricing difference sucks but according to people in Canada that work for my company they make a lot more than we do here. Wonder if that's part of the reason why? I remember reading about the civic si in some other country being the equivalent of our lx and causing confusion on the forums, not sure where that is though.
