I am hardcore SIM racing for a very long time and I always wonder what other people think about it so here are some of my thoughts about it. Please feel free to share opinions, experiences and whatever you have to say about it
Personally I always had a huge hunger for driving, my idea of fun was to get in a car and drive it for 14 hours as far as I could get and back home in a day, I used to do that in my younger days in Europe and I still lone for it. Needles to say I was also an fast aggressive and impulsive driver as well but somehow through some miracle I have survived without any accidents or problems, though I had one or two really serious close calls in my days but I got out without a scratch me or the car. Then at some point I have discovered simracing and I found that actually it can take away one's hunger for speed, handling and insane maneuvering.
Even more I think that all the time one spends fighting for the perfect traction and racing line in the virtual world actually translates very well in the real world. For one in accident situations one reacts very well and when I want to be crazy i do it much safer and over all I rarely go over the safe limit since I get my dose of crazy in iRacing and GT5.
I also used to hate winter driving, long time ago, but now I actually enjoy it, it is like racing and loosing traction except at low safe speeds
Obviously doing it in real life on a track is great as well, but sometimes you can find the limit in the virtual world, real life I would not risk finding the perfect almost loose grip and wrap around something on the side of the track, or at least go through a set of tires and brakes in a day
So what do you think?
