Soulja Boy upset the entire country with his soldier diss this past week.

“F–k the FBI and the Army troops/ Fighting for what/ Be your own man” says the rapper in the newly released video, “Let’s Be Real.”

The lyrics, released around the time of September 11th anniversary, are causing quite the controversy.

Soulja Boy is said to be in the process of taking the music offline and although, the rapper apologized and reportedly promised the troops free concerts and an in person apology, it may not be enough. According to TMZ, the soldiers are trying to get him banned from their bases with an online petition that’s circulating.

Soulja Boy released an apology through Global Grind earlier this week. The blog post read:
“As an artist, I let my words get the best of me. Sometimes there are things that we feel, things that we want to express, and when we put them on paper and speak them out loud, they can come out wrong. When I expressed my frustration with the US Army, not only did my words come out wrong, I was wrong to even speak them. So, I write this to give my sincerest apology to all members of the United States military services, as well as their families that were offended by my most recent lyrics.”

“As a young man who grew up in the post-9/11 era, I have watched our country fight two wars that seem like they are never going to end. I have seen thousands and thousands of our brave men and women get killed in battle and often times, I think for what? A lot of people in this country are struggling to make ends meet and I think a lot about what if we had never gone to war. Where would our economy be? Our schools, our after-school and work programs, our streets? I mean, damn, 48 people got shot in New York City just this past weekend … in 3 days … I’m not saying that it is just because of a bad economy, but at a certain point we have to take care of our own people.”

“In no way would I ever want to offend those who are protecting our freedoms … a lot of homeboys who I grew up with, a lot of people who come from the neighborhoods we live in … In no way do I want to hurt any of our honorable soldiers who put their lives at risk, regardless of how they feel about the two wars we fight in. I am just frustrated that we haven’t been able to bring you all home quick enough and my frustration got the best of me. I am deeply sorry.”

Soulja Boy, 21, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way is best known for his popular songs including, “Crank That (Soulja Boy),” “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” and “Turn My Swag On.”

“Let’s Be Real.” Orly? please remove your fake glasses....looks like they don't even have lenses in them.

I think this guy could have expressed himself a lot better but... he was stating his opinion. I don't disagree that there are military operations going on in places where ultimately they have no business being. I really don't understand the mentality of you're either with us, or you're against us. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? He's dissenting against what he sees to be needless fighting. I don't disagree with that. Can it really be condoned to ban someone from a place/punish them due to stating an opinion? That's a pretty slippery slope if you start supporting that. There's a word to describe that ideology - fascism.

well, why would he want to go to a base and perform the song anyway? It may be comparable to you writing some amazing jam about how much you "love" your job/company you work for. Then your company hears it, and says... you can't perform at our office. If you hated the office, would you really want to be performing there?

If he meant what he said, he shouldn't have to say he's sorry. Freedom of speech protects that. There are plenty of people who are against the wars, military, army, whatever. You have the right to be for/against any of it.

It's dumb on a lot of levels, and if you don't like it vote with your wallet by not buying his records or going to his shows. The music is absolutely atrocious and completely obnoxious anyways, so I don't understand how anyone would pay for that in the first place. Besides, there are a lot more eloquent ways to go about saying such things and for a rapper, lyrics are supposed to be the prime attraction to the music anyways... so it's a fail on all levels. I just don't see it as so extreme as what people seem to be taking it as. If he is volunteering to do shows at US Army bases now, it's to show he doesn't actually hate the army. That doesn't mean he has to support wars in foreign countries or whatever it was he was actually trying to say.

I'm just trying to illustrate that punishing people for stating an unpopular opinion means a free country becomes not quite as free anymore. Punish him for making juvenile music by not listening to it.

He could've "expressed" his opinion in a 1,000 better ways than to say "F the army, be a MAN"...which means, well exactly what he said...He should have simply stayed on his "ringtones" and "swag" music and would've been just fine....But NNoooo, let's watch some CNN and make some political "incorrect" statements...

The episode of him getting a tattoo at LA Ink was on TV today. Made me mad. He was all about getting his last name tattooed on his hand since it's going to stay around. He was hoping he'd make his family name proud with his career or w/e. Heh....
