'14 Civic Si - stock ContiProContact all-weather low profile tires..

I had a screw stuck in my tire. Took it in for a plug-and-patch job. When the tire shop was trying to remove the tire from the wheel, they said that instead of metal, they use a plastic tip on the tire machine, and that the sidewalls were so well stuck to the wheel that the plastic piece broke and their machine tore into the sidewall off the tire.

Now, they replaced the tire free and they even gave the matching opposite side at cost, but I was wondering if anybody experienced, or heard of, difficulty removing factory installation tires from the wheels.

I took the unbroken second tire back as spare, and I can see on the tire as well, that where they first punch in to peel the tire off the wheel, the lip of the tire is somewhat damaged.

They said that they must have used a lot of sealer at the factory.

I've always just yanked screws out with some pliers. Is it normal for tire shops to pull tires off the rims to extract the screws? hope others chime in on this.

I've only seen the tire pulled for that if a customer insists on a patch instead of plug.

I should have read it better. Didn't see the patch part.

Wow, never heard of that happening. Good on those guys for doing what they could to make it right. Probably still sucked to have to buy another tire.

Thats really strange, when I swapped out my wheels I keeped my OEM tires same ones you have and everything was fine they didn't have a problem..

What probably happened was the tech didn't remove the valve core from the stem, no air pressure was released and they tried popping the bead...the lube tech at my old job did it twice before he was fired, not saying this is what happened but I'm sure they wouldn't want to tell you that they had an inexperienced tech working on a vital part of your car and possibly losing your trust and your business ... so they made something up...just my guess
