Am I the only one that has entertained this idea for an SI?
The wheels that came on the 05. 06. 07 STI's. They come in silver or gold and are fairly cheap for being forged and about 16 pounds. (Vs 23.5 pounds for stockers)
They are also 17x8 5x114.3 but a +53 offset which put the inside of the wheel 21mm closer to struts and 5mm less tucked. Is the strut clearance an issue?
Also would the TPMS just bolt in??

I'd be worried about strut clearance with those wheels, esp if you're running 235s or a wide 225, the STI has different struts / steering knuckles relative the WRX for this reason.

I guess another way to answer your own question... see if you can get a clearance measurement on the stock civic setup. See how much room you have to the strut right now

Well I'm gonna be running 215/45. I have heard people running 9in wide with +35 that's 15mm closer to struts but I don't know about that last 1/4in if there is enough clearance for it.

However if I recall correctly there is a thread on here about someone wanting to put accord wheels on his civic with +55 and a 7.5 wide. The ones who chimed in said it would work.
The BBS wheel is 5mm more towards the strut. So I don't know how to go about checking that clearance.

The Subaru BBS wheels are not a direct fit on the Civics. The center bore for the Civic is 64.1mm, 56.1 for the Subaru. You will have to make the center bore on the BBS wheels to match the 64.1mm in order to make it fit.

Example of a center bore:

Another option is to get wheel spacer adapters that changes the center bore from 64.1mm to 56.1mm.

In addition to that, you'll end up spending a lot of money to make these wheels fit. There are better wheel options that don't require all this custom work.

Wow. I understand. I guess its not worth it.
I just like that the wheels forged.
What would u recommend then that's a light wheel. Similar to rpf1 but forged maybe? Or MAT tech.

Thanks

Holy crap that's a lot lol.
Do all aftermarket wheels fit without issue? For example compensation for center bore? Also can factory lug nuts be used with out issue? With lets say the rpf1s?

Some aftermarket wheels are made with a large centerbore, and rely on the studs to center the wheel ( called lug-centric ) while a stock wheel uses the close fit of the hub bore to the back of the wheel. ( called hub-centric )

I called Centerline a few days ago, they are fairly inexpensive as forged wheels go, but they don't offer a custom center bore option, so they would rely on the wheel studs to carry the load, and not just clamp the wheel. I was quoted just under $ 1200 shipped for a set of 4 "Excel" in 17 x 7 +42.

If you can find a manufacturer that will modify their CNC files to give you a custom centerbore option, that is much better in my opinion. Also, beware that some are set up for taper seat lugs, and some for ball seat.

Factory lugs cannot be used. You'll need acorn seat lug nuts. The factory lug nuts are ball seats.

As for aftermarket wheels fitting your car, you just have to check the center bore size. They have 'hub centric rings' that can be used to make some wheels fit correctly.

Thanks for all the info guys extremely helpful! A+
And I'm going to check out Centerline.
so your saying ANY aftermarket wheel wont be a ball seat? in this case i HAVE to buy lugs?

Yes, any aftermarket wheel will require aftermarket lugs.

oh okay thanks.
By any chance to u know if the "Execl" wheels u got a price for were polished or chrome? cause im kinda linking Centerline. theyre light!

Polished... I didn't inquire on the price for the chrome plated versions, but I would expect a healthy premium on top for chrome. The centerbore was pretty big if I recall though, I think it was 74 mm, but can't be sure, I didn't write that down.

Thank.s chrome is too shiny for me lol even though its a mirror polish.
So in this case with a ~74mm center bore these wheels are lug centric and would fit as long as i buy acorn seated lugs if im not mistaken?
