(NewsCore) - Two teenagers have admitted participating in a vampire-style attack in which the victim was repeatedly bitten on his chest and arms, The Dominion Post reported Tuesday.
James Eric Orr and Xenia Gregoriana Borichevsky, both aged 19, admitted injuring the 18-year-old victim -- who has permanent name suppression -- leaving him with injuries which required hospital treatment when one of the bites became infected.
The pair were due to stand trial on Monday, but entered guilty pleas in the Wellington District Court after being given a sentencing indication from Judge Bruce Davidson.
Borichevsky, who had only been in New Zealand for two months after living in the US since she was seven years old, was told she would be discharged without conviction if she did 200 hours' community work, paid reparation of $400 to the victim and wrote letters of apology.
Orr was told he would get a sentence of community detention, community work and reparation. Both will be formally sentenced at a later date.
Judge Davidson said the victim had been drinking with Borichevsky, Orr and another man, 22-year-old James Phillip Brooks, prior to the attack.
"He was overpowered when he was drunk and vulnerable, he was restrained and bitten," the judge said.
Borichevsky's lawyer, John Miller, said she denied biting and tried to calm the situation down -- by saying things like the victim had bad blood.
Orr's lawyer, Chris Tennet, said his client was sorry for what had happened.
Outside an earlier court hearing Brooks told media he bit the victim after he flirted with his girlfriend.
"Yeah, I bit a guy ... he hit on my missus. My girlfriend and my mate were biting him. I was angry with him, so I used it as an excuse. I didn't bite him to hurt him. I bit him because I was pissed off with him and he was my mate and I didn't want to hurt him.
"If I'd hit him, I'd have really hurt him, so I thought I'll bite him seeing as they're already biting him. [Drinking blood] wasn't my agenda, I was just angry ..."
