TMG EV P001 smashes prior record set by Peugeot EX1
Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has smashed the previous Nürburgring EV lap time record of 9 minutes, 1.338 seconds, set by the Peugeot EX1, with a time of 7 minutes, 47.794 seconds with driver Jochen Krumbach at the wheel of the TMG EV P001.
The lightweight EV weighs just 2,138.5 lbs., and runs on two electric motors producing 375 brake horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque on its way to 162 mph. Toyota will start selling the technology behind the EV P001 for use in "single make electric motorsport series" next year.
TMG technical director Pascal Vasselon said there were dual purposes behind the project.
